Position

We’re looking for a Human Resources Intern to join our team this summer! This is a role for someone who wants to understand how a city thrives by supporting the people who power it. You will provide essential support across the entire employee lifecycle. Your duties will range from high-level project assistance to critical administrative maintenance.

You’ll work with a supportive team that wants to see you grow, gain experience in a complex and rewarding environment, and see firsthand how HR impacts an entire community.

What You’ll Do

  • Customer Service & Outreach: Serve as a point of contact for internal staff and the public; respond to inquiries regarding HR policies and procedures.
  • Event Coordination: Assist with the preparation, marketing, and logistical setup for staff trainings, wellness programs, and city-wide activities.
  • Administrative Support: Maintain records retention systems, including filing, electronic scanning, indexing, and processing official correspondence.
  • Operational Exposure: Gain practical experience in core functions including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, labor relations, and legal compliance.
  • Strategic Projects: Contribute to HR initiatives such as data analysis, compensation studies, policy updates, and employee engagement programs.

Major Areas of Accountability

  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal staff and the public on human resource-related issues, provide outreach and answer questions as needed.
  • Assist in preparation, marketing, set up and other logistics for trainings or other events and activities.
  • Attend meetings, participate in committees, and represent human resources division as needed to other city staff.
  • Assist with records retention and storage, filing, electronic scanning and indexing, correspondence, mailings, and other routine paperwork related items as needed.
  • Gain exposure to core HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, employee relations, labor relations and compliance.
  • Assist with strategic HR projects, such as employee engagement initiatives, compensation, policy updates, wellness programs, and HR data analysis.
  • Collaborate with HR team members on various day-to-day tasks and priorities.
  • Other duties and activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary degree in human resources management, business or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Exceptional customer service skills for both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work independently and provide self-direction.
  • Valid driver’s license
