Job Overview
HR & Accounting Manager (or Office Manager)
Reports to: Company President
We are seeking a hands-on HR & Accounting Manager to support human resources for a ~50-employee manufacturing company located in La Verne, CA. This role will oversee compliance with California and Federal labor laws, manage employee relations, process payroll, and ensure consistent policies and practices across all locations. This role is ideal for someone experienced in supporting a largely hourly, multi-shift, manufacturing workforce.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance and HR Operations
● Ensure compliance with California and federal labor laws, including wage and hour, overtime, rest and meal breaks, leaves of absence, and workplace safety.
● Maintain employee records, personnel files, and HR systems.
● Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures across all sites.
● Support managers with scheduling, attendance tracking, and timecard accuracy.
Employee Relations
● Act as the main point of contact for employee issues, complaints, and conflict resolution.
● Investigate employee concerns and implement corrective actions.
● Coach managers and supervisors on consistent application of policies and fair treatment of employees.
● Address attendance, conduct, and performance issues in a timely manner.
● Manage offboarding processes to ensure compliance.
Recruiting and Onboarding
● Manage recruiting for all roles, ensuring positions are filled quickly with qualified candidates.
● Coordinate background checks, pre-employment screenings, and required certifications.
● Oversee onboarding and orientation to set clear expectations for attendance, performance, and conduct.
Workforce Management and Development
● Support supervisors in setting expectations and providing feedback to employees.
● Develop practical training programs for safety, compliance, and job performance.
● Promote retention through clear communication, recognition, and fairness in processes.
Compensation, Payroll, Benefits, and Administration
● Process accurate payroll and ensure compliance with wage and hour laws.
● Administer health insurance, workers’ comp claims, and other benefit programs.
● Negotiate benefits renewals with vendors.
● Support leave management (FMLA, CFRA, etc.).
Culture and Engagement
● Promote a safe, respectful, and consistent work environment.
● Develop communication methods appropriate for the workforce.
● Build trust with employees while holding them accountable to company standards.
Qualifications
● 5+ years of HR experience, with at least 3 years managing HR for hourly workforces.
● Strong knowledge of California employment laws.
● Experience investigating employee complaints in compliance with California employment laws and best practices.
● Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, act professionally, and build strong relationships with employees and managers.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Experienced with Microsoft Excel
● SHRM-CP, PHR or equivalent certifications a plus.
Pay: $67,423.66 - $81,198.39 per year
