Administer position and compensation matters for The Community College of Rhode Island employees and maintain related records in compliance with collective bargaining agreements and personnel policies. Assist the Executive Director of Labor and employee Relations in the area of labor and employee relations and other areas as necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Work collaboratively with others and provide quality customer service in a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Administer applicable policies for all employees’ requests for transfer, promotion, and termination from service.
  • Direct as needed for all related classified service personnel transactions.
  • In collaboration with the RI Department of Administration (DOA) and Manager of Recruitment, develop and update classified job descriptions as needed.
  • Assist supervisors and Managers in addressing employee performance deficiencies
  • Assist supervisors addressing the development of employees, including identifying gaps in skills and potential training needed.
  • Assist supervisors who identify employees as marginal or poor performers in addressing such issues.
  • Ensure all performance gaps are fully addressed and documented prior to the end of any probationary period
  • Evaluate relevance and effectiveness of training programs and make recommendations to the Executive Director of Labor and Employee Relations.
  • Assist Executive Director of Labor and Employee Relations in the area of all areas of employee relations.
  • Prepare materials for and attend grievance hearings at all levels dealing with employees covered under collective bargaining agreements and college policies
  • Assist in the preparation of cases to be submitted to arbitration or to the Labor Relations Board
  • Assist the Executive Director of Labor and Employee Relations with research and reporting as needed with investigations.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive of Labor and Employee Relations.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field
  • 5-7 years of experience as a human resources generalist including administration of collective bargaining agreements
  • Evidence of effective problem-solving skills and ability to think outside the box.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written at all levels within the organization
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Willingness to assume leadership in promoting good public relations in dealing with faculty, staff, and the students
  • Ability to work well with all levels of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Skilled in interviewing, counseling, and conflict resolution in a human resource setting.
  • Ability to manage a highly structured classification position and compensation system.
  • Ability to successfully interpret and apply collective bargaining agreement language.
  • Knowledge of related state and federal regulations and laws
