We are seeking a hands-on Plant HR Manager to lead the Human Resources function at our manufacturing facility. This role reports directly to the Plant Manager and serves as a key member of the Plant Leadership Team.
This is a highly visible leadership position requiring strong labor relations expertise within a unionized manufacturing environment.
Critical Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
- Union manufacturing experience required
- Must have served as first or second chair in collective bargaining negotiations
- Experience limited to note-taking or scribe responsibilities during negotiations will not be considered
- Supervisory experience strongly preferred
- This role has one direct report (HR Generalist)
Position Overview
The Plant HR Manager has full responsibility for the site’s HR function, ensuring execution of corporate HR standards while developing and implementing local strategies that drive employee engagement, compliance, and business performance.
This position requires both strategic leadership and hands-on, day-to-day HR execution.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Leadership
- Serve as a key member of the Plant Management Team
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Plant Manager
- Deliver end-to-end HR solutions aligned with operational objectives
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws
- Lead complex employee relations investigations and resolutions
- Track, analyze, and improve HR KPIs and site-level metrics
Union & Labor Relations
- Lead and support collective bargaining negotiations (first or second chair experience required)
- Interpret and administer the collective bargaining agreement
- Provide coaching and guidance to leadership on labor relations matters
- Build and maintain effective union relationships
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Lead full-cycle recruitment and selection processes
- Manage onboarding and orientation programs
- Implement and oversee performance management processes
- Utilize talent identification tools (e.g., 9-box model)
- Develop succession planning and workforce development strategies
Training & Development
- Develop and maintain plant-wide training matrices
- Deliver required compliance and operational training programs
- Partner with Corporate Talent and Organizational Development teams
Total Rewards & HR Operations
- Ensure alignment with corporate compensation and benefits programs
- Monitor local wage and benefit trends
- Oversee benefit administration and HRIS data accuracy
Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E)
- Promote and maintain a safe, compliant work environment
- Manage workers’ compensation cases and return-to-work programs
- Maintain required safety records and reporting
- Serve as HR liaison during regulatory inspections
- Support continuous improvement in HS&E performance
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Professional HR certification preferred
- Minimum 5+ years of HR leadership experience in manufacturing
- Automotive industry experience preferred
- Proven collective bargaining negotiation experience (first or second chair)
- Strong business acumen within a global, matrixed organization
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems
- Demonstrated ability to influence and advise senior leadership
