Human Resources Manager (Part-Time)

About the Role

ABC Fire is a well‑established, safety‑focused fire protection company serving Western Pennsylvania. We are intentionally and thoughtfully adding a part‑time HR Manager to help us centralize and manage compliance systems, documentation, and employment‑related risk as the company continues to mature.

This is not an urgent hire and not a build‑from‑scratch HR role. Our handbook, benefits, and core processes are already in place. The purpose of this role is to take ownership of compliance engines and documentation systems (such as Avetta and customer/vendor portals), ensure records are accurate and defensible, and serve as a steady HR backstop for ownership.

This role is particularly well‑suited for a seasoned HR professional—possibly someone semi‑retired—who enjoys applying experience, judgment, and structure without the demands or chaos of a full‑time role.

What You Would Be Responsible For

This role owns the HR side of compliance, documentation, and risk coordination, including:

  • Primary ownership of compliance engines and vendor/customer portals, including Avetta and similar systems
  • Managing and maintaining employee‑related documentation tied to OSHA, DOT, safety training, certifications, and customer requirements
  • Coordinating compliance inputs with ownership, operations, safety leads, and external partners (without owning field safety programs or inspections)
  • Ensuring records are current, accurate, and defensible across audits, vendor reviews, and customer requirements
  • Serving as the HR point of contact for employee relations, discipline documentation, and termination process support
  • Monitoring employment‑related compliance requirements and proactively flagging risks or changes
  • Supporting onboarding and offboarding with a strong emphasis on compliance completeness
  • Acting as a calm, experienced “second set of eyes” on sensitive or edge‑case situations before issues escalate

This is a judgment‑heavy, systems‑oriented role, not an administrative or program‑building position.

What This Role Is Not

  • Not a Safety Manager or EHS lead
  • Not responsible for running OSHA/DOT programs, inspections, or field training
  • Not a full‑time position
  • Not focused on culture initiatives, engagement surveys, or corporate programming
  • Not an always‑on or reactive support role

The goal is order, consistency, and risk reduction—not expansion.

Ideal Background

  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience
  • Experience supporting small to mid‑sized organizations (30–100 employees)
  • Strong understanding of employment law, documentation, and compliance
  • Experience with vendor or customer compliance platforms (e.g., Avetta or similar)
  • Comfortable in blue‑collar, safety‑sensitive, or regulated environments
  • Calm, practical, and discreet professional judgment
  • Able to work independently with minimal oversight

Certifications (helpful but not required):
SHRM‑CP / SHRM‑SCP, PHR / SPHR

Schedule & Structure

  • One consistent in‑office “anchor day” per week preferred
  • Remaining hours flexible and remote
  • Clearly defined scope and hour expectations
  • Designed intentionally to remain part‑time

Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
