    West Hartford Public Schools seeks to fill the position of Human Resources Specialist at Town Hall. Under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director of Human Resources, this position performs a variety of responsible and complex technical and administrative duties relating to human resource functions and programs, including employment recruitment, benefits administration, compensation, and employee relations.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Significant related experience may substitute for education.
    • Five (5) years of Human Resources-related experience.
    • Ability to work in a confidential setting.
    • Strong technology skills, including but not limited to Human Resources Software Systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills.

    Performance Responsibilities:

    Human Resources Software Systems
    • Input relevant employee information into Human Resources Software Systems. Utilize systems to access and report on data pertaining to employees.
    • Serve as system manager for the absence management system.

    Substitute Teachers / Teaching Assistants / Tutors / Paraprofessionals
    • Screen candidates’ applications and credentials for suitability; conduct telephone/email communication with applicants.
    • Conduct interviews with substitute teaching applicants; hire and process successful candidates.
    • Manage accurate lists of all support staff employees; track and process changes each year.
    • Process employment paperwork submitted by newly hired Teaching Assistant, Student Aides, Paraprofessionals, and Tutor applicants; maintain ongoing files of employees.
    • Conduct on-boarding meetings for all Teaching Assistants, Student Aides, and Tutors recommended for hire.
    • Conduct contracted paraprofessional meetings and place candidates on appropriate salary schedule, communicate contract provisions and benefit packages, and mail hiring letters.
    • Coordinate and communicate staff changes across departments to ensure smooth transitions; IT, residency, benefits, pension, and payroll.
    • Knowledge of support staff contracts to support admin and employee inquiries.
    • Process substitute payroll and submit to the business office.
    • Quote and process retirement payouts for paraprofessional retirees.
    • Receive communication from schools regarding the performance of substitutes and communicate that feedback to the individuals. Respond as necessary to concerns.
    • Develop expertise with the Absence Management substitute management system; troubleshoot technical issues.
    • Complete summer renewal process for support staff (Para/TA/Substitutes) and manage all changes in HRIS database.

    Salary: Starting salary is $80,245 to $109,223, depending on experience.

    This is a 12-month position with benefits.
