General Responsibility: The duties of the Customer Service Start Up Tech are the installation, maintenance, and repair of both residential and commercial HVAC. Customer Service HVAC Tech’s are responsible for performing a variety of services ranging from troubleshooting to repair.
Significant Duties:
- Responsible for performing HVAC start-ups on newly installed systems and ensuring proper system operation and customer satisfaction.
- Makes decisions by analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Uses a variety of hand tools and diagnostic equipment, following blueprints, wiring diagrams, piping layouts, or engineering specifications to inspect, test, and commission HVAC equipment.
- Performs start-up procedures for furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and mini split systems according to manufacturer specifications.
- Verifies proper airflow, refrigerant charge, electrical connections, gas pressures, and thermostat operation.
- Troubleshoots system issues discovered during start-up and makes necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Installs and calibrates thermostats, zone controls, and other HVAC control components.
- Performs preventative inspections, system testing, and necessary modifications to ensure equipment is operating properly and efficiently.
- Prepares for on-site start-ups by reviewing installation layout, identifying potential issues, gathering required tools and materials, and coordinating with installation teams as necessary.
- Documents work by completing start-up reports, commissioning forms, and maintaining accurate job records.
- Maintains knowledge of all manufacturer products regarding installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair procedures.
- Provides technical support to installation teams and customers when needed.
- Analyzes system performance and identifies appropriate tools and materials needed to complete adjustments or repairs.
- Performs within the values and guidelines of 20/20 and adheres to the 20/20 Policies and Procedures.
- Follows health and safety standards and complies with all applicable mechanical codes.
- Other duties or projects assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Four (4) or more years of HVAC installation or service experience, or three (3) or more years performing HVAC start-ups or commissioning.
- EPA Universal Certification preferred.
- Hold a valid California Driver’s License with a clean DMV record.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check to access customer residences.
- Must be self-motivated, responsible, punctual, and professional.
- Must have strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have basic Android/iPad knowledge.
- Maintain electronic timekeeping via portable electronic device (tablet).
- Working knowledge of HVAC principles including airflow, refrigeration cycle, electrical diagnostics, and gas heating systems.

- Must be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, and other unusual elements such as loud noise, dirt, dust, fumes, etc.
- Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, turning, and climbing to a significant degree.

Physical Requirements: The position of Customer Service HVAC Tech requires that you can lift objects that weigh up to 75 pounds, climb a ladder, squat and kneel, twist and bend, and work above head and below waist. Job involves driving from job site to job site most of the time but also involves walking or standing for periods.
