HVAC Geothermal Technician

Overview

We are seeking highly motivated individuals seeking a career in HVAC, plumbing and drilling operations regardless of your prior background. NO HVAC EXPERIENCE REQUIRED for admission to this training program.

We are an HVAC consortium of trade partners, heat pump manufacturers, and certification organizations specializing in geothermal heat pump and hydronic systems technologies, including pipefitting, HDPE pipe fusion, low voltage controls, excavating, drilling operations, and installation and service. Using government funding and matching funds from hiring companies, we will provide free and low cost training (weeks, not years) to qualified applicants. For qualified personnel, training subsidies or interest free loans are available during training. Our standard is that you must have a great attitude, excellent attendance, acceptable appearance with a desire for achievement. Our training is to designed to create a meaningful career for qualified individuals. This includes typically disadvantaged groups including individuals from under served communities, veterans, women, people of color, and people with handicaps.

We have openings for candidates with no experience, as well as experienced trades people desiring to expand their skill sets to include those described above.

The ideal candidate will have a interest in renewable energy systems, geothermal heat pumps, hydronic heating and cooling systems, low voltage controls, drilling rig operations and support personnel to these trades. Sales and administrative personnel are also required by our hiring companies. You are not required to have experience in HVAC systems for this entry level training position.

Experienced traditional HVAC personnel with a desire to expand their qualifications to the above systems are encouraged to apply. For this category of trainees, you will have the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain various heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. The experienced role requires mechanical knowledge and hands-on experience in the field, ensuring that all equipment operates efficiently and effectively.

You should have your own transportation for training and subsequent employment.

Duties after Completing Training and Certification

  • Install, maintain, and repair heating and cooling heat pump systems in residential and commercial settings, or support functions such as excavating, drilling, pipe fusion, controls installations, servicing and support.
  • Conduct inspections of installed heating and cooling systems to identify potential issues.
  • Utilize electrical and diagnostic tools s to diagnose performance or electrical problems with geothermal heat pump units.
  • Provide field service support, responding promptly to service calls and customer inquiries.
  • Work with refrigeration systems when necessary, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Work with hydronic in-floor heating and cooling systems to insure problem-free operation.
  • Collaborate with team members to design efficient geothermal heat pump solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of service performed and parts used for each job.

Skills

  • Proficient in building and servicing HVAC/R systems with a focus on efficiency and reliability.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues effectively.
  • Experience in equipment repair and maintenance, demonstrating a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with plumbing concepts as they relate to HVAC installations and repairs.
  • Ability to design effective HVAC solutions based on client specifications and requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members in a professional manner.

This subsidized training program begins in December 2025, with classes starting every two weeks, and will continue until available funding expires.

Pay: $27.50 - $45.00 per hour
