HVAC Instructor - (Substitute)

Position Description:

As a HVAC instructor your job involves providing instruction with an approved training curriculum and materials. Instructors should enjoy working with people to help develop them into quality technicians. Our instructors provide assessment of students through applicable monitoring and reporting processes. HVAC instructors ensure adherence to all safety standards and practices as well as all requirements for accrediting agencies. Oversight, care and maintenance of facilities, equipment and materials is a critical part of oversight for instructors.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning; employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students including strategies to meet diverse students’ needs.
  • Teach classes as assigned in an environment within field or discipline as needed.
  • Contribute to program and division curriculum development processes.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver quality classroom instruction in lecture and/or laboratory formats based on the approved curriculum.
  • Ensure that all classes start and end at the prescribed times.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance records and communicate any attendance concerns to management.
  • Provide students with academic support, tutoring, and skills enhancement as necessary.
  • Prepare and organize the lesson materials, equipment, and training area.
  • Develop training aids and projects relevant to the subject matter taught adhering to policies and approved curriculum
  • Provide training to new instructors in on‐site location and/or other Summit Campuses, as needed.
  • Participate in all assigned training (n‐service/professional development/required)
  • Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of their educational process
  • Maintain expertise in subject area
  • Deliver approved curriculum to students on a daily basis
  • Provide regular, accurate and timely feedback to students and the school concerning academic, behavior, attendance, etc.
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the field or discipline; stay current in subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conference or workshops
  • Other duties assigned

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Required Qualifications: Must possess a minimum of three years of experience, education and training in current practices of the subject matter being taught – HVAC. EPA 608 Universal Certification required and NATE Core Service Certification preferred.

Preferred experience: heating, air conditioning and/or refrigeration with responsible experience working in the industry and knowledge of servicing, troubleshooting, and the installation of residential and light commercial HVAC systems. An understanding of control systems as well as working knowledge of industrial HVAC systems is a plus strong written and verbal communication skills, and PC literate, enjoy working with a diverse group of students Teaching experience preferred. Training Requirements:

Each instructor shall maintain their knowledge by completing continuing education courses in his or her subject area, classroom management or other course related to teaching. Faculty are required to maintain current licensure at employees own cost. Instructors are required to participate in all assigned training with Summit College and may be called upon to provide training to newly hired instructors (see essential functions).
