A 4,000 bed operation providing safe, clean, affordable housing to students at UMBC. A mix of traditional residence halls and apartments provide different housing options and maintenance challenges.



Position Overview:

Under general supervision, installs, services, and repairs a variety of residential and commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC) equipment. Mechanics at this level install and service residential and commercial heat pumps and industrial centralized air conditioning systems up to 100 tons. Systems may contain several zones.

Responsibilities:
  • Installs, operates, services, and repairs light commercial heat pump/air conditioning systems and other HVAC equipment such as refrigerators and exhaust ventilators.
  • Serves on an on-call rotation with other mechanics to serve the campus in after-hours and weekend emergencies.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Four years progressively responsible experience in the skilled trades in the air conditioning/refrigeration trade.
  • Ability to obtain EPA 608 Universal Certification within 6 months.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hold EPA 608 Universal Certification

Salary:

Pay Range 13

(minimum: $28.29/hr maximum: $33.71) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
