HVAC Service Technician – Statewide Travel (Commercial Focus)

Nolan Air Heating & Cooling is seeking an experienced and highly motivated HVAC Service Technician to support statewide commercial service operations throughout Florida. This role requires 100% travel across the state for an initial 3 to 6-month period, with the opportunity to transition into a local, Tampa-based service position as operations stabilize.

In this role, you will primarily perform diagnostics, service, repair, and preventative maintenance on commercial split-system air conditioners and heat pumps up to 5 tons (systems exceeding 5 tons are excluded). The position is hands-on and field-driven, supporting a wide range of commercial clients while representing Nolan Air with professionalism and technical excellence.

The standard work schedule is four (4) days per week, Monday through Thursday, with three (3) consecutive days off. However, based on workload, travel demands, or customer needs, the schedule may occasionally be shortened or extended, including additional days worked when required.

This position includes travel pay / per diem of $50 per day to support meals and incidental expenses while working away from home.

Successful technicians are strong problem-solvers who can accurately diagnose system issues, communicate clearly with customers and property managers, and recommend appropriate repairs or replacement solutions when needed. While the primary focus is commercial service execution rather than residential sales, technicians may identify opportunities for system repairs, replacements, or efficiency improvements as appropriate.

This is a high-visibility role within a growing company, offering competitive compensation, travel support, and a clear path to long-term placement in the Tampa market for top performers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnostics & Repairs: Diagnose issues with HVAC systems (e.g., split systems, package units, heat pumps) and perform repairs, including component replacement, refrigerant handling, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance on HVAC equipment, such as cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, and testing system efficiency, to prevent future breakdowns.
  • Customer Service: Interact with clients on-site to explain service needs, provide repair recommendations, and ensure satisfaction with completed work.
  • Service Coordination: Collaborate with the Operations Manager and Purchasing Manager to schedule service calls, obtain necessary parts, and manage workload to meet customer timelines.
  • Documentation: Accurately record service details, including diagnostics, repairs, and parts used, for company records and customer billing.
  • Safety Standards: Adhere to safety protocols, handle refrigerants responsibly, and maintain a clean, organized work area during service visits.
  • Technical Expertise: Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and techniques to provide cutting-edge service solutions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience (15+ years strongly preferred) as an HVAC Service Technician, with a strong track record in diagnostics and repairs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC systems, including residential and light commercial units.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, gauges, and repair equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex HVAC issues independently and efficiently.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an HVAC trade school program preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Comfortable working in varying weather conditions typical of Tampa’s climate.

Benefits

  • Health insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Company-provided tools and uniform
  • Company-provided van
  • Opportunities for professional development and certification support
