HVAC sheet metal fabrication

Overview:

Elite Heating and Cooling is seeking an experienced Custom Metal Fabricator (HVAC) to oversee the fabrication of custom HVAC ductwork and specialty metal components. This role is hands-on and leadership-focused, responsible for quality, efficiency, and mentoring shop personnel while coordinating closely with install manager, estimator, and field teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the fabrication of custom HVAC ductwork, fittings, and specialty metal components
• Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and specifications
• Operate and oversee use of fabrication equipment (shear, brake, plasma table, roll former, etc.)
• Measure, layout, and precision-cut various gauges of sheet metal—including galvanized steel, aluminum, black iron, and stainless steel—while maintaining a strict zero-waste standard
• Ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with project requirements and SMACNA standards
• Perform airtight joining using MIG/TIG welding, soldering, and riveting to meet 2026 SMACNA standards
• Coordinate material needs and schedules with install manager, estimators, inventory manager, and field crews
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
• Inspect finished products and resolve fabrication issues as needed
• Support continuous improvement in shop processes and workflow

Qualifications

• 5+ years of HVAC metal fabrication experience (custom and commercial preferred)
• Advanced knowledge of welding (MIG/TIG) on various alloys and expert-level manual layout skills for compound fittings
• Strong knowledge of HVAC ductwork fabrication and installation practices
• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and blueprints
• Proficiency with shop fabrication equipment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
