HVAC Sheet Metal Field Journeyman

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Mechanic (Journeyman) plays a critical role in the installation and maintenance of mechanical systems, ensuring their optimal performance and reliability. This includes fabricating/installing ductwork, installing hangers and supports, diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and installing equipment with precision and expertise ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards. The Journeyman works with blueprints, measures and cut materials, assembles duct systems, and may also be involved in system testing and maintenance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Journeyman 1:

  • Basic Installation: Skilled in assembling and installing ductwork in addition to materials like aluminum, stainless steel, black iron and flues.
  • Apprentice Guidance: Direct, instruct and train apprentices in project tasks to ensure efficient workflow.

Journeyman 2:

  • Specification and Sketching: Ability to read specifications and project documentation to produce fabrication sketches for project planning and execution.
  • Field Fabrication Knowledge: Skilled at executing field fabrications for offsets and miters.

Journeyman 3:

  • Advanced Equipment Installation: Install complex equipment like VAVs, fans, and humidifiers, etc.
  • Site Coordination: Attend job site meetings and assist foreman to manage manpower, schedules, and reports.
  • Training and Development: Continue to train apprentices on installation, fabrication and duct construction

Journeyman 4:

  • Productivity and Conflict Management: Enhance workplace productivity and address potential conflicts
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize construction software like Procore, Bluebeam, for project coordination.

Core Responsibilities Across all Levels:

  • Understand and execute safety protocols and best practices to ensure a secure work environment.
  • Comply with Company quality control processes and
  • Perform other duties as

HIGHLY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • High school diploma or
  • At least 4 years of
  • Completion of a 4-year OJT or state-certified apprenticeship
  • Comprehensive understanding of HVAC/sheet metal
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s
  • Ability to obtain a Journeyman Certificate from relevant
  • OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 certification
  • Competent on how to read blueprints and various trade
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently and
  • Ability to work in teams and
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage moderate stress

A successful candidate must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.

The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and also work at heights. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Exposure to varying weather conditions, indoor/outdoor environments typical of construction sites, and the possibility of working in confined spaces and at heights. The noise level in the work environment, particularly when in the field, can vary significantly and at times be very loud.
