Eastern Florida State College is currently seeking applications for the full-time position of HVAC Specialist I on the Melbourne Campus in Melbourne, Florida.

Salary & Benefit

The annual salary is $33,000. Successful internal candidates for external job postings should be aware that their current salary does not transfer to the new position. Salary will be as advertised in the job announcement. Full-time employees of Eastern Florida State College receive fringe benefits including health insurance and a retirement plan.

Position Concept

The HVAC Specialist I position will be assisting Spec II, III and IV with the operation and maintenance of all air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, ventilation systems and associated equipment throughout the college under minimal supervision. Will be required to assume weekend and after hours standby for mechanical and air conditioning emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

The following minimum qualifications for this position must be met before any applicant will be considered:

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • An EPA 608 certification is preferred.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with contractors, architects and engineers.
  • Must have knowledge and use of computer software - accessing and loading data related to college supported systems.
  • Must be familiar with energy saving controls and systems.
  • Must have some knowledge of the operating principles of heating, air conditioning, & refrigeration.
  • Valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator’s license required.
  • A review of Social Media activity will be part of the candidate evaluation process.
  • This position will require successful fingerprinting and the candidate chosen will be required to pay the associated fee (currently $36.00). This fingerprinting fee ($36.00) is non-refundable.

  • Official transcripts of all collegiate work will be required to be considered beyond the application phase. *
  • High School Diploma or GED or transcripts or official transcripts of all collegiate work (as appropriate for the position) must be sent directly from the attended institution to the Human Resources Office prior to the first day of employment. All foreign degrees must have a course-by-course official evaluation and translation sent to the Human Resources Office directly from an evaluation company affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.

Minimum physical qualifications:

  • Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move 40 + pounds.
  • Must have good hand eye coordination.
  • Must be able to stand, stoop and bend for long periods of time.
  • Must have knowledge and experience of the use of HVAC hand tools and equipment.
  • Works within confined spaces.
  • Works outside in various weather conditions.
  • Works in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment.
  • Works in noisy conditions.
  • Works with hazardous chemicals.
