Position Summary

This position provides direct care to patients as delegated by and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). Delivers assigned, delegated, direct care consistent with the individualized treatment plan. Performs non-patient care activities as assigned. Maintains a safe & therapeutic treatment environment. As assigned, fulfills the Health Unit Coordinator role on the patient care units.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for using the proper methods for maintaining, repairing or installing HVAC related equipment. Responsible for ensuring all work conforms to local, state and federal codes or regulations.
  • Overseeing the quality and timeliness of HVAC-related tasks in consultation with PO&M Manager.
  • Analyze service requests to determine repair scope, plan appropriate work methods, and establish preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC equipment.
  • Maintain and enhance preventative maintenance programs. Continuously evaluate and improve existing maintenance procedures; develop new workflows to optimize equipment reliability and performance.
  • Partner with the Manager of PO&M to define specifications for materials, equipment, and supplies required for facility installations, upgrades, or renovations.
  • Conduct cost comparisons for HVAC parts and materials, initiate purchase requisitions, and manage departmental procurement processes with supervision of the Manager of PO & M.
  • Assist in preparing budget estimates for materials, equipment, and operational costs in coordination with the Manager of PO&M.
  • Assess new equipment and establish preventive maintenance protocols to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Participate in initiatives to meet Joint Commission standards and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to OSHA standards by proactively identifying and addressing workplace hazards and promoting a culture of safety.
  • Participate in an on-call schedule for HVAC/refrigeration issues as required.
  • Collaborate actively with team members across departments to foster positive relationships and contribute to the development of technical expertise within the maintenance team.
  • As time allows, cross train current maintenance staff on HVAC related equipment.
  • Assist with general maintenance work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of mechanical experience preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong commitment to modeling and upholding the Lindner Center of HOPE’s mission, vision, and values.
  • HVAC: A minimum of five (5) years of field experience required. HVAC certification is mandatory.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform preventive maintenance on all HVAC equipment, including: Rooftop Units, Liebert Units, Heating Boilers, Domestic Hot Water Boilers, VAV Boxes, Heat Pump Systems, Ice Machines, Kitchen Equipment, and Split Systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and repair HVAC split systems, including refrigerant evacuation, acid testing, system recharging, and high and low voltage controls.
  • Ability to train and coach PO&M Technicians to perform proper preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
  • A valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are required, in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code, Rule 5122-30-31. Annual Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) checks will be conducted.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, trade school certification, or higher-level education preferred.
  • Experience in a hospital or healthcare facility, with knowledge of Joint Commission standards, preferred.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, workplace safety standards, and applicable safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of building codes and compliance requirements is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and building drawings.
  • Extensive knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques across multiple trades, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and HVAC systems. Strong expertise in electrical systems, including generator operation, is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, set goals, and implement effective systems to achieve departmental objectives.


Physical Requirements:

Employees must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis, and be able to stand or walk about 90% of a work shift. Must be able to ascend and descend on ladders and work in tight spaces. Must be able to see, talk and hear coworkers, patients and others.
