HVAC/R Instructor (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration)

Position Overview

Pinellas Technical College is seeking an experienced HVAC professional to transition into an instructional role and train the next generation of technicians.

This is a hands-on teaching position focused on developing students’ technical skills, work ethic, and industry readiness. The ideal candidate brings real-world HVAC experience and is ready to apply it in a structured, competency-based training environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver hands-on HVAC/R instruction aligned to state frameworks and industry standards
  • Train students in electrical systems, refrigeration cycles, diagnostics, and installation practices
  • Prepare students for EPA 608 and HVAC Excellence certifications
  • Implement competency-based instruction tied to real-world job tasks
  • Assess student performance through practical application and written evaluation
  • Track and document student progress, attendance, and certification readiness
  • Maintain a structured classroom and lab environment that reflects workplace expectations
  • Collaborate with administration and industry advisory members to ensure program relevance
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with HVAC technologies

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 6 years of verified full-time HVAC/R industry experience
  • OR6 years of prior HVAC teaching experience
  • Ability to qualify for a Florida Teaching CertificateRequired Within First Year
  • EPA 608 Certification
  • HVAC Excellence Certifications:
  • Air Conditioning
  • Electrical
  • Electric Heat
  • Heat Pump

Schedule

  • August–May: Monday–Friday, 6:45 AM – 2:15 PM
  • June–July: Monday–Thursday, 6:45 AM – 4:11 PM

Pay

Starting at $60,000, with performance-based incentives tied to student achievement of industry certifications
