Salary: £44,075 - £49,282 (Grade 7)

Hours: 37 hours per week, Shift pattern – one weekend in three with time off in lieu

Contract type: Full time, permanent

Location: Shaw Road HWRC, Anchor Lane HWRC, Crown Street Transfer Station

The award-winning City of Wolverhampton Council is seeking an enthusiastic HWRC Supervisor to join our dynamic and hardworking Waste Services team. Based within the Waste Services department, as part of a team of 3 HWRC Supervisors, you will manage the day-to-day operations, waste movements and environmental considerations for our two busy HWRC's and Recycling Waste Transfer Site. As part of the team, you will line manage and develop a number of drivers and site operatives working over two different shifts to ensure that sites are run efficiently and capably, 7 days per week.

The successful candidate will have a full class 2 HGV driving licence, CPC, WAMITAB Level 4 (12 unit) and licences for plant and machinery as well as experience in the waste industry. You should also have a proven track record in managing and developing people, with a positive attitude and can-do approach. An interest in regulatory matters and further training in this field would also be advantageous.

As part of the process, each candidate will be asked to give a short presentation showing their knowledge of environmental compliance in HWRC's and waste management sites.

NJC Pay Award for 2026 / 2027:

The annual pay increases for 2026/27 for NJC Local Government Employees are currently being negotiated and, once agreed, will be effective from 1 April 2026.

Our working arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empowers employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocation where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
