A Hydrant Field Technician is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining a variety of fire hydrants throughout the water distribution system.
Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on fire hydrants, i.e., cleaning, painting, repairing,replacing, and/or lubricating nozzles, caps, operating nuts, stems, gaskets, chains, etc.- Performs inspection and testing of fire hydrants to ensure proper operation and to itemizedeficiencies
- Hydraulic testing to establish flow capabilities and locate flow deficiencies.
- Collects pertinent hydrant data through office and field investigation to create a permanent recordfor reporting and safety sheets regarding hydrant number, manufacturer, model, connection, year,valve opening size, depth, location, etc.
- Raises, lowers, pulls, and repairs valve boxes; installs water meters.
- Exercise water distribution valves manually, requiring substantial manual exertion
- Locate valves using a ferromagnetic locator
- Work within confined spaces (Trench boxes, excavations, tunnels, mechanical rooms)
- Read maps and find underground utilities via GPS coordinates and as-builts
Required Skills
Knowledge of and the ability to use basic hand tools, materials, and equipment commonly used inthe performance of job function.- Knowledge of using pumps, compressors, and other appropriate equipment
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and be able to write legible and descriptive reports onduties performed.
- Ability to work on emergency repairs and services unsupervised or in teams of various sizes.
- Ability to work outdoors in various and/or extreme weather conditions
- Must have a valid driver’s license clear of multiple and/or major violations.
- Class A CDL license (preferred)
- Ability to work on an on-call or emergency basis as needed
- Ability to travel locally, regional, or nationally
- Working knowledge of OSHA & EPA Regulations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships
- Excellent attention to detail
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of relevant construction experience (preferred)

- Exposure to extreme seasonal weather based on geographic region.
- Exposure to moving parts and electricity that require safety protocols.
- Ability to work in high-stress and/or physically demanding environments
- Exposure to varied travel conditions by means of driving and
