Title: Electrical and Instrumentation Technician

Role Description

Maintains, repairs, and/or replaces the physical equipment in a chemical manufacturing plant safely, correctly and efficiently by understanding and adhering to standard maintenance procedures and techniques.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to size and install conduit and wiring for voltages between 12V and 480V in an industrial setting
  • Knowledgeable with layout, installation, troubleshooting and repair of industrial power supply circuitry up to 480 VAC including the following but not limited to:
    • Circuit breakers
    • Motor starters
    • Fused disconnects
    • AC and DC motors
    • Start/Stop circuits
  • Field calibration of instrumentation utilizing proper test equipment.
  • Overhaul of equipment in a shop environment to include component replacements, alignments and calibration to manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Repair of signal transmission equipment such as tubing, wiring, etc.
  • Instrumentation to include pneumatic, electronic and digital equipment.
  • Fault analysis of hardwire relay logic, motor control circuits, motor power circuits (120V to 480V 3phase) and common utility / lighting circuits.
  • Installation of new control circuits, modification of existing instrument/electrical systems as requested, to include design, load and implementation of new control logic.
  • Fault analysis of PLC based systems with control logic modification if required.
  • Conduct work activities in a manner that protects the safety and health of employees, visitors and the environment as established by company policies and procedures.
  • Safely respond and react to production problems in a timely and efficient manner while performing maintenance projects and PM tasks.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments and team members to maintain equipment availability, maximize productivity and efficiency, and ensure high quality standards.
  • Ensure safety by maintaining high standards of housekeeping in work area and shop and also clean and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Follow guidelines concerning safe work and good engineering practices as it relates to maintenance activities. Ability to comply with all employee, safety and environmental policies and regulations.
  • Work in proximity of steam boilers, chemical processing equipment and electric systems.
  • Work inside and outside under varying conditions.
  • The job requires periodic overtime and calls-ins on weekends, nights and holidays.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience and Education (Candidate must possess a majority of the following skills)

  • Minimum 3 years of Industrial Electrical and/or Instrumentation experience. Relevant Technical Degree is desirable and may replace all or part of Industrial work experience requirement.
  • High School diploma, proficient in math, written and spoken English.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, rebuild and install plant electrical equipment and instrumentation with little or no supervision.
  • Able to utilize computer-based systems to perform administrative and maintenance-related tasks.
  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician desired but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing ladders and stairs, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing/walking for long periods of time, pushing, pulling, grasping, working at elevated heights, and heavy lifting.
  • Ability to work out of man lifts or man baskets and use safety harnesses.
  • Must lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Climb stairs as high as an eighth floor.
  • Climbs vertical steel ladders 35 to 40 feet above ground or landing level.
  • At times, climbs atop tanks, vessels, rail cars, etc.
  • In installing, dismantling, or repairing machinery the Technician can be involved in considerable pulling and pushing, stooping and being placed in some very awkward positions. For the most part the job requires the Technician to be on their feet for the full 8 hour shift and on occasion up to 16 hours.
