Plans, Schedules, And Coordinates The Use Of The Ice Arena Services For Programs Generated By The Department Of Special Services, City Of Farmington Hills Sponsored Events, As Well As Events Booked By The Private Sector. Assists With The Proper And Efficient Administration And Operation Of The City Of Farmington Hills Ice Arena.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in developing, implementing and overseeing the policies and long-range plans for the Ice Arena Division, including retail sales operations, maintenance, administrative and building facilities management.
  • Interviews and screens candidates for employment making recommendations for selection. Trains and assist employees in various ice arena departments/capacities, including but not limited to concessions and office staffing. Through correspondence with the Ice Arena Manager, initiates and implements concepts or ideas that benefit overall facility operations and ice arena department efficiency.
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of the ice arena staff, including but not limited to scheduling, as needed daily operational assistance, concessions operations, custodians, tenants, and promotional events. All activities are to be done in accordance with applicable union contracts, city and departmental policies and procedures, and contents within the Standard Practice Guide.
  • Interacts with facility users, including program participants, youth hockey association, adult hockey association, figure skating Club, parents, community organizations, and members of the public as well as hockey schools, food and beverage providers, and advertising agents.
  • Provides information, resolves problems, and assists in assuring the efficient operation of the facility.
  • Responds to inquiries and complaints regarding facility operation and services.
  • Assists in planning, directing, and overseeing marketing and promotional programs.
  • Assists in promoting and publicizing the facility and its programs.
  • Recommends expenditures on building maintenance, equipment repair and replacement, and capital improvements.
  • Performs a variety of office tasks. Prepares correspondence, answers phones, and assists residents with questions and other office duties.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Parks, Recreation, Facility Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Three years of supervisory and administrative experience. Experience in ice arena or athletic facility management, sports scheduling or recreational management is preferred.

Experience in Zamboni ice resurfacing as well as concessions and/or foodservice preferred.

Computer Skills

Basic computer skills in word processing

Basic skills with spreadsheet software.

Certificates & Licenses

Valid Operator’s License.

Food Service Certified Manager Certification (within 180 days)

Flexible schedule a must. Work days vary. Days, evenings, weekends. No overtime.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of the job the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, talk, and use hands and fingers; to handle, or operate objects, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Other Physical Requirements

Good vision and hearing.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in the office and near ice surfaces but can also be in locker rooms and in all parts of the ice arena facility including maintenance and concessions. Occasional exposure to blood borne pathogens and bodily fluids. Occasional exposure to muddy, icy, and uneven terrain, odors when removing recycled materials, ice shavings, food products or trash to outside receptacles. Exposure to cold temperatures in the environment.
