About the Role
Do you take pride in ensuring mission-critical telecommunications infrastructure is installed, documented, tested, and turned over with precision? We are seeking a Data Center Field Engineer / Project Engineer to support Division 27 technology infrastructure projects within hyperscale and enterprise data center environments.
In this role, you will serve as a key link between project management, field operations, quality assurance, and client stakeholders. You will support the delivery of structured cabling systems, fiber optic infrastructure, pathways, spaces, and telecommunications rooms while ensuring compliance with client standards, industry best practices, testing requirements, and commissioning milestones.
This position offers a strong growth path toward Project Manager and Senior Project Manager roles while building expertise in mission-critical telecommunications infrastructure delivery.
What You'll Do
- Provide daily support to Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field teams on active Division 27 projects.
- Coordinate installation activities involving structured cabling, fiber optic systems, backbone infrastructure, pathways, telecommunications rooms, and related low-voltage systems.
- Assist with field issue resolution and communicate design, installation, and documentation requirements to project teams.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, redlines, as-builts, and turnover documentation.
- Review telecommunications drawings, specifications, rack elevations, fiber pathways, cable schedules, and installation details.
- Identify design conflicts, constructability concerns, and scope gaps prior to impacting schedule or quality.
- Ensure field documentation accurately reflects installed conditions.
- Support QA/QC activities throughout project execution.
- Coordinate testing and validation of copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
- Verify compliance with TIA, BICSI, client, and project-specific standards.
- Track and validate test results, deficiency items, punch lists, and corrective actions.
- Support commissioning readiness and turnover requirements.
- Interface with client representatives, commissioning teams, design consultants, and trade partners.
- Provide status updates regarding installation progress, documentation completion, testing results, and turnover readiness.
- Participate in project meetings, quality reviews, and milestone planning sessions.
- Track installation progress and productivity metrics.
- Support forecasting, material management, billing documentation, and change order development.
- Coordinate closely with supply chain, VDC/BIM, engineering, and operations teams to ensure project success.
- Assist Project Managers with schedule updates and risk identification.
What You Bring
- Understanding of Division 27 telecommunications infrastructure systems.
- Knowledge of structured cabling, fiber optic systems, pathways, spaces, and data center environments.
- Familiarity with telecommunications testing, certification, and turnover requirements.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, telecommunications plans, specifications, and client standards.
- Strong organizational and documentation management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Desire to grow into project management and operational leadership roles.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Telecommunications, Technology Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–3 years of experience supporting telecommunications, low-voltage, structured cabling, or mission-critical infrastructure projects.
- Experience with Division 27 systems preferred
- Familiarity with BICSI, TIA, and data center industry standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and project management platforms.
- OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30 preferred.
- RCDD, DCDC, EIT, FE, or PMP-track credentials are a plus.

Work Environment
This is a hands-on, technical role with time spent both in the field and supporting project documentation. Work is performed in active data center construction environments and may include walking job sites, climbing ladders, lifting up to 40 lbs, and extended periods of computer work.
