Position Summary
The IDD Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a team providing direct care and support to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). This role supports and supervises Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) while ensuring services are delivered in accordance with individual service plans, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards. The IDD Team Lead also assists with staff development, service coordination, and quality oversight while maintaining a person-centered approach to care.
Position Scope
This position oversees service delivery for individuals receiving IDD services and works closely with operations leadership, Support Coordinators, families, and community partners. The IDD Team Lead supervises Direct Support Professionals and helps ensure authorized services are delivered effectively and consistently. The role supports service quality, staff performance, documentation compliance, and regulatory adherence while helping maintain a stable and supportive environment for individuals receiving services.
Key Responsibilities
Provide daily leadership and supervision to Direct Support Professionals to ensure high-quality, person-centered services aligned with each individual’s Individual Service Plan (ISP). Oversee staff scheduling, attendance, and coverage to meet authorized service hours, while supporting onboarding, training, and performance management. Monitor implementation of goals and risk strategies, advocate for individuals’ rights and independence, and collaborate with families, healthcare providers, and Support Coordinators to ensure coordinated care. Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable state and federal regulations, including requirements from the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services, as well as Medicaid waiver programs. Oversee accurate and timely documentation, ensure alignment with Medicaid billing standards, and manage incident reporting through the CHRIS system, including follow-up actions. Serve as a liaison between staff and leadership, communicating service needs and updates, and support audits, scheduling adjustments, and ongoing service improvements.
Regulatory Frameworks
This role operates in compliance with applicable federal, state, and Medicaid regulations governing IDD services. Services must align with licensing standards established by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and Medicaid program requirements administered by the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services, including service delivery under Virginia Medicaid waiver programs.
Confidentiality
The IDD Team Lead is required to maintain strict confidentiality of all participant, employee, and organizational information, including medical records, service documentation, and internal communications, in accordance with company policy and applicable privacy regulations.
Documentation Requirements
Oversight of accurate and timely service documentation and progress notes
Monitoring completion of required service records to support Medicaid billing compliance
Ensuring incident reporting and documentation requirements are completed properly
Maintaining organized and secure records in accordance with company policy and regulatory standards
Certifications
CPR and First Aid certification required or must be obtained within a specified timeframe after hire.
Medication Administration certification may be required depending on program needs.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) field required
Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
Experience working with Medicaid waiver services or Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) programs preferred
Technical Skills
Knowledge of documentation standards for Medicaid-funded services
Ability to review service documentation and monitor compliance requirements
Proficiency with electronic documentation systems and basic office software
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Languages
English is required. Bilingual skills are a plus.
Driver License
A valid driver’s license is required for this position.
Travel Requirement
Travel may be required to participant homes, community locations, and program sites as needed to support service delivery and staff supervision.
