About us: Midwest Academy for Gifted Education is a not for profit institution focused on the social, emotional, and academic needs of gifted students in the Chicagoland area for ages corresponding to Junior Kindergarten all the way to 12th grade. We have 64 students this year.
Core details about the position including the school day and what you'd be doing:
- Teacher hours: 8-3:45
- Support arrival and attendance.
- Manage homeroom which will consist of 6-16 students/45 minutes per day.
- 8 periods+lunch and recess.
- During homeroom you will support student social emotional activities and assist with any executive functioning skills .
- Run 5 academic classes per day, if you do not run homeroom, you will have 6 classes.
- 2 planning periods per typical full academic school day. Fridays are specials.
- Typically, our classes have only 2-8 students in them, 4-6 students mean for ELA.
- All our meetings are over lunch and recess, not before or after school.
- Lunch or recess duties and a 30 minute break-this rotates.
- We level our students into groups of similar abilities, then filter by age for appropriateness.
About our students:
- score in the top 2% for IQ or achievement
- have to shadow for 2 weeks with us to vet social and emotional and academic skills/assessments.

Requirements:
- You have to know how to differentiate instruction or be willing to learn.
- Differentiated and project based instruction/assessment.
- Lesson planning and execution to meet and exceed grade level common core standards
- Student assessments, grading work.
- The students do not typically receive homework in elementary grades, but you do have to assign class work-they have study hall periods during the school day that's supervised by our teachers where they can practice for additional fluency and retention, read, write, beyond your 45 minutes of daily instruction.About the job:

- At least 60 credit hours in elementary education/high school education, 21 credit hours in early childhood;
- Master's degree required, can be in English or in Teaching with the endorsement that covers the grade years listed.
- 3 years or more of lead teaching experience preferred.
- Experience with gifted students strongly preferred;
- Experience teaching accelerated, telescoping, and/or compacted curricula; finding appropriate reading materials for high lexile and or comprehension readers, reading assessment and common interventions, Project and child-led learning experience;
- Subject matter expertise as appropriate up through at least 12th grade, ideally some college literacy instruction.
- Additional requirements that need to be fulfilled prior to or on the job include State of Illinois mandatory reporter, CPR certification.
- A contract is for a minimum of a year.Benefits:

1 World Languages Teacher: full time teacher with native speaking and ed experience to teach some of our multiple languages: Japanese, Mandarin, French, Spanish, Latin, Hebrew.
You will be responsible for curriculum and delivery of approximately 5 classes with 1-8 students per day with at least one 45-min plan per day and one 30-min break. You will also have a homeroom responsibility with 6-16 students.
Hours are 8AM-3:45PM.
Some out of school hours are outlined in contract and are mandatory, such as curriculum night, parent teacher conferences, and school benefit dinner etc. We are a small school, so you will have to help rotate in for lunch and recess, go on field trips during school hours.
Time saving summary: Pay rate does not go above $65K a year to start but feel free to send in your resume/cover letter with your desired salary if you are higher than this, we will keep it on file; You have to interview in person and we do not sponsor from other countries. You need actual real classroom experience where you are a lead teacher. Tutoring 1 student at a time or summer jobs, assisting in a classroom, all do not count as classroom experience.

- School full or part time social worker/school psychologist
- Japanese teacher, part time
- Teaching assistant/learning support resource PT and FT
