Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with preparing and filing immigration petitions, applications, and related documents across various immigration categories such as family-based, employment-based, asylum, and deportation defense.
- Conduct thorough legal research using tools like LexisNexis and Westlaw to support case strategies and stay updated on current immigration laws and policies.
- Manage case files efficiently using legal case management systems like iManage or PCLaw, ensuring all documentation is accurate, complete, and properly organized.
- Interview clients to gather detailed personal information, verify documentation, and assess eligibility for different immigration benefits.
- Draft legal documents including affidavits, cover letters, correspondence, and procedural motions with precision and clarity.
- Review and analyze legal documents such as contracts, supporting evidence, and government forms to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, government agencies, and internal teams through professional phone etiquette and timely updates on case progress.
- Support attorneys with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, proofreading documents, transcription of recorded interviews or meetings, and managing deadlines.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of immigration law procedures, policies, and documentation requirements.
- Strong research skills utilizing LexisNexis, Westlaw, and other legal research tools to gather relevant case law and legal precedents.
- Proven experience with legal case management software including iManage or PCLaw for efficient document handling.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Effective interviewing techniques to obtain comprehensive client information in a respectful manner.
- Familiarity with document review processes related to immigration applications and supporting evidence.
- Exceptional writing skills for drafting clear legal correspondence, affidavits, and procedural documents.
- Ability to proofread meticulously to ensure accuracy in all legal materials.
- Experience supporting attorneys in litigation or administrative proceedings involving immigration issues.
- Knowledge of related practice areas such as family law or criminal law that may intersect with immigration cases is a plus.
- Strong clerical experience including data entry, filing systems, document management systems like iManage or Westlaw integrations, and administrative support functions.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with professional phone etiquette to interact confidently with clients and stakeholders.
