Impairment Analyst

Position Overview
SSMC Group is looking for an Impairment Analyst to manage and analyze impairment-related transactions and financial assessments. This key position will focus on identifying, assessing, and reporting impairments within financial portfolios, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards (IFRS 9, IAS 36) and providing valuable insights into the company’s financial health. If you have strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of financial reporting standards, and a passion for risk management, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Impairment Assessment: Review and assess impairment on financial assets, including loans, investments, and receivables, ensuring compliance with IFRS 9 and IAS 36 standards.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on impairments for management, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and transparency in all financial disclosures.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze financial data and trends to identify potential impairments in assets, using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Provisions & Write-offs: Calculate provisions for impairment and ensure that appropriate write-offs are made, in line with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all impairment calculations and related financial statements comply with local and international accounting regulations.
  • Scenario Analysis: Conduct stress testing and scenario analysis to assess the impact of adverse conditions on the impairment of assets, providing insights into risk exposure.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as finance, risk management, and compliance, to ensure alignment in the impairment assessment process.
  • Audits & Documentation: Support internal and external audits by providing the necessary documentation and explanations for impairment-related matters.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance the impairment analysis process and implement improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial analysis, impairment assessment, or related fields, preferably within banking, financial services, or accounting firms.
  • Strong understanding of impairment models under IFRS 9, IAS 36, and local regulations governing asset impairment.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, SAP, Oracle).
  • Solid knowledge of financial reporting, accounting standards, and risk management principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with large datasets, ensuring accuracy in all financial calculations and reports.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex financial data.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly to management and stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English (Arabic proficiency is a plus).
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CFA, FRM) are highly desirable.
