Import/Export Superintendent

Job Overview:

The role of an Import Export Supervisor involves overseeing and managing the end‑to‑end movement of goods across international borders while supporting core supply chain operations such as inventory management, and warehouse activities. This position is critical to ensuring materials and equipment are sourced, handled, and delivered efficiently, cost‑effectively, and in full compliance with all applicable trade and customs regulations.

The Import Export Supervisor coordinates with suppliers, procurement teams, shipping companies, warehouse personnel, and customs officials to facilitate smooth, accurate, and timely transactions. Responsibilities include managing import/export documentation, negotiating shipping rates, ensuring adherence to international trade laws, and maintaining high standards of safety, service, and operational excellence. A strong understanding of logistics, supply chain management, and trade compliance is essential to support continuous efficiency, achieve cost savings, and secure on‑time delivery for both domestic and cross‑border operations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and optimize daily import/export processes to ensure smooth and efficient cargo flow.
  • Coordinate shipments with suppliers, freight forwarders, carriers, and customers.
  • Supervise, coach, and assist in developing a highly proficient team, ensuring accountability and performance toward departmental KPIs.
  • Oversee customs clearance activities, ensuring adherence to international trade compliance requirements.
  • Review and manage shipping documentation such as commercial invoices, bills of lading, and customs declarations.
  • Negotiate rates and service agreements with logistics providers.
  • Track and monitor in‑transit shipments to avoid delays and ensure on‑time delivery.
  • Work with purchasing, sales, and warehouse teams to support operational and business objectives.
  • Stay current with global trade regulations and compliance updates.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to international logistics.
  • Handle claims, discrepancies, and disputes involving carriers, shipments, or customs processes.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of import/export or customs compliance experience, preferably in a maquiladora or IMMEX environment. [mx.trabajo.org]
  • Strong knowledge of Mexican and USA customs law.
  • Experience working directly with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and cross‑border carriers.
  • Proficiency in logistics software and trade‑compliance systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced warehouse/manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities under strict deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for coordination with internal teams and external partners.
  • Experience conducting inventory audits and reconciliation requirements.
  • Ability to identify process‑improvement opportunities and support continuous‑improvement initiatives.
  • Forklift license
  • ERP system management (Oracle Recommended)

Work Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the warehouse for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials and equipment.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds independently and occasionally heavier items with assistance or material‑handling equipment.
  • Regular use of hands and arms to handle, reach, and operate tools, scanners, or warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated storage areas as needed.
  • Capability to work in environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, and warehouse conditions.
  • Visual acuity to inspect shipments, read documentation, and operate warehouse systems or equipment.
  • Ability to remain focused and alert while operating around forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyors, and other moving machinery.
  • Occasional requirement to kneel, crouch, or stoop during inventory checks or equipment inspections.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and perform physical tasks safely while maintaining attention to detail.


Shift: First Shift
Compensation: $65,000 -$70,000 per year
