Position Overview

Empire National, Inc., a growing and dynamic trucking and transportation company based in Fletcher, NC, is seeking an experienced In-House General Counsel to support and guide our expanding operations.

This role will work directly with executive leadership to oversee legal strategy, manage day-to-day legal matters, and provide practical, business-focused counsel across multiple areas of the organization. The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced transportation environment.

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping legal and operational strategy within a growing logistics company.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate lease agreements (equipment and real property)
• Prepare, review, and negotiate consulting, vendor, and service agreements
• Oversee asset protection strategies and fleet-related legal matters
• Handle claims, load disputes, towing matters, and transportation-related incidents
• Manage and resolve cargo claims and operational liability issues
• Support formation, structuring, and governance of new and existing business entities
• Conduct legal research related to expansion initiatives and strategic growth
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and industry regulations
• Develop and implement internal policies, procedures, and risk management strategies
• Coordinate and manage outside counsel when necessary

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Active license to practice law in North Carolina
• Experience in contracts, corporate law, transportation law, or business law preferred
• Strong drafting, analytical, and research skills
• Ability to work independently and advise executive leadership directly
• Practical, business-minded approach to legal problem-solving
• Experience handling claims and operational risk in the transportation industry is a plus
