In-Person English Language Arts (ELA) Tutor

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic In-Person English Language Arts (ELA) Tutor to work directly with middle and high school students. As an ELA Tutor, you will support students in enhancing their reading comprehension, writing, and critical thinking skills while guiding them through various aspects of English literature and language. This role requires in-person interaction with students in a positive and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions in English Language Arts, covering areas such as reading comprehension, essay writing, literary analysis, and grammar.
  • Develop customized lesson plans and individualized teaching strategies tailored to meet each student’s needs and learning style.
  • Assist students with understanding complex literary texts, improving essay structure, and enhancing their vocabulary and language usage.
  • Help students build confidence in their reading and writing abilities by offering constructive feedback and targeted support.
  • Prepare students for standardized tests and assessments, including SAT/ACT English sections and advanced high school English exams.
  • Track and monitor student progress, adjusting teaching methods and materials as necessary to achieve academic goals.
  • Maintain regular communication with students (and parents, if applicable) to discuss progress, address challenges, and set goals.
  • Foster a supportive and motivating learning environment that encourages academic growth and a love for literature.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Literature, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of the middle and high school English Language Arts curriculum.
  • Prior experience tutoring or teaching ELA, including advanced high school English courses or standardized test preparation.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in an accessible manner.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a passion for helping students succeed.
  • Availability to tutor in-person at Irvine, CA and flexibility to accommodate students’ schedules.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
