A mechanical maintenance job in the manufacturing and fabrication industry involves ensuring all production machinery and facility equipment operate efficiently and safely through a mix of preventive and corrective maintenance. Key Responsibilities
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections, lubrication, and servicing of mechanical systems (e.g., pumps, motors, conveyors, cranes, HVAC units, hydraulic/pneumatic systems) to prevent unexpected breakdowns and extend equipment life.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues, then perform necessary repairs or component replacements to minimize production downtime.
- Fabrication and Installation: Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment and machinery. May involve basic in-house fabrication or modification of parts using welding and machine shop tools.
- Documentation and Inventory: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and service logs, often using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Manage the inventory of spare parts and tools.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and industry regulations (e.g., Lockout/Tagout procedures, use of personal protective equipment, handling of hazardous materials) to ensure a safe work environment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with production teams, engineers, and other maintenance staff to schedule maintenance activities and implement process improvements.
