Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Care:
- Monitor vital signs, fetal heart rate, and progress of labor using appropriate tools.
- Provide physical and emotional support to women in labor.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and epidurals as prescribed.
- Assist obstetricians during normal and complicated deliveries (e.g., forceps, vacuum).
- Prepare for and assist in emergency procedures like C-sections.
- Monitor postpartum recovery of mother and initial care of the newborn.
- Conduct APGAR scoring and initiate newborn resuscitation if required.
- Ensure infection control and hygiene standards are maintained at all times.
2. Documentation and Records:
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date nursing notes, delivery registers, and partograph entries.
- Report and document any complications, incidents, or deviations from normal.
3. Patient Education:
- Educate mothers on breastfeeding, newborn care, hygiene, and postpartum recovery.
- Provide emotional support and counseling where necessary.
4. Equipment and Supplies:
- Ensure readiness of labor room, delivery kits, instruments, and emergency drugs.
- Check and report malfunctioning equipment or low inventory to the concerned department.
5. Emergency Preparedness:
- Be prepared to handle obstetric emergencies like PPH, eclampsia, fetal distress.
- Participate in drills and mock codes for obstetric and neonatal emergencies.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: GNM / B.Sc Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Registration: Valid nursing license from Tamil Nadu State Nursing Council certificate.
- Experience: 5+ years in a labor ward or maternity unit preferred.
