Individual Giving & Membership Manager

The Currier Museum of Art, an internationally acclaimed art museum less than an hour from Boston, seeks a Individual Giving & Membership Manager to join the team. The successful candidate will be responsible for fostering individual donors and increasing membership and visitation, providing opportunities to grow the Currier’s community and foster relationships.

The Individual Giving & Membership Manager will strategically build pipelines to help turn visitors to members, and members to lifelong donors. This role directly supports the Currier Museum’s $5 million annual operating budget and contributes to achieving the $1.8 million annual fundraising goal through individual giving and membership growth.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Working with the Director of Development and the Development Committee, assists in the development and implementation of overall long-range fundraising objectives and individualized donor relations strategies; monitors annual benchmarks to meet goals and increase levels of financial support for the organization. Contributes to achieving annual individual giving targets representing approximately 30–40% of the Museum’s annual goal.
  • Develops and manages a portfolio of individual donors and prospects. Designs, implements, and coordinates annual fund appeals and Currier Society members, through direct mail, email, and e-newsletter solicitation strategies around specific donor segments. Develops targeted messaging for individual appeals. Aims to increase annual fund revenue by 5–10% year-over-year through improved segmentation and targeted campaigns.
  • Closely monitors the progress of each appeal and provides the Director of Development with updates on progress. Determines the appropriate number, type and timing of fundraising appeals during the year. Tracks response rates, average gift size, and donor retention metrics, with a goal of improving donor retention by 3–5% annually.
  • Recognizes individual donors through a variety of methods, providing tiered stewardship and a tailored approach based on affiliation and level of giving, with individualized attention increased toward top donors. Methods include recognizing donors in print and web materials, ensuring media coverage of major gifts, supporting recognition events, and procuring stewardship gifts for top donors.
  • Manages the Currier Society. Improves the experience of existing Currier Society members and provides opportunities to cultivate and recruit new members through personal interaction and by providing insider opportunities and targeted social events. Targets 5% annual growth in Currier Society membership and increased upgrade rates from general membership tiers.
  • Regularly reports progress in fundraising revenue vs. budgeted goals. Ensures accuracy of information in database and effectiveness of development communications.
  • Strategizes the solicitation and renewal of 2,000+ membership households, ensuring the highest level of member satisfaction, with the assistance of Guest Services, with a goal of 5–10% annual growth in total households.
  • Oversees the membership budget and monitors results to ensure monthly and annual goals are met.
  • Develops visitor-to-member pipelines, identifies membership upgrade opportunities, member-to-donor pipelines, and improve retention in all programs
  • Aims to increase visitor-to-member conversion rates by 3–5% annually and improve overall membership retention by 5%.
  • Supports programs and activities designed to expand the Currier’s reach within the community by increasing the visibility of membership
  • Enhances the offering of member benefits including the monthly Tracy D Carrier Membership Legacy Fund Tours and cultivating relationships with local businesses (ex. reciprocal memberships, member discounts at local restaurants)
  • Supports the Guest Services manager on timely processing of memberships, fulfillment of membership cards, receipts, and gift acknowledgements
  • Designs and manages communication strategies for membership including monthly newsletter, regular promotions and responding to member and donor inquiries. Utilizes engagement metrics (open rates, click-through rates, and conversions) to improve digital communication performance by 5–10% annually.
  • Collaborates with Guest Services on membership sales, selling techniques, and providing membership support
  • Provides monthly membership financial reports to the Finance office and monthly reports and dashboard information to Director of Development

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with 3-5 years of successful experience in development and fundraising, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills; editing and proofreading skills necessary.
  • Outgoing and enthusiastic, with the ability to develop effective working relationships with staff, trustees, volunteers, and donors.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, positive attitude and a sense of humor, with a commitment to confidentiality and ethical behavior.
  • Team orientation and ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Highly energetic, goal-driven; flexible, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Superior organizational skills with a high attention to detail; proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines in a busy environment
  • Experience working with volunteer leadership and committees.
  • Proficiency with Advanced MS Office Suite and fundraising software, preferably Altru.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
