Individual Placement - Historic Washington State Park Participant

Position Summary

Join the staff at Historic Washington State Park in their efforts to preserve Arkansas's rich and varied history. Job tasks will vary but may include cataloging artifacts or archival collections, historical research, interviewing and transcribing oral histories, developing and presenting educational programs, giving guided tours of historical facilities, and other related tasks.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Working with museum collections by inventorying and describing;
Learning proper handling and storage methods;
Learning to do historic programs for the general public;
Gain an understanding of interpretive methods in a living history museum

Marginal Duties

Support with any additional park programs or events; historical research; interviewing and transcribing oral histories; giving guided tours of historical facilities, and other related tasks.

Required Qualifications

  • Be a full-time student in good standing at an Arkansas college/university at the time of application.
  • Be an Arkansas resident paying in-state tuition.
  • Have completed 60 hours of college credit by the time the internship begins.
  • Have declared a degree of study.
  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
  • Demonstrate coursework or knowledge related to work area.
  • Have reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have a declared major in History, Museum Studies, or another field related to historical parks and museums
  • Attend a university who will provide course credit for completion of internship

Hours

40 per week

Living Accommodations

Housing will be a one-bedroom apartment located on-site. Single bed included with fully equipped kitchen. Cookware and dishware included. One full bathroom. Sheets and linens not provided.

Compensation

  • Living allowance - $500/week
  • Commuting allowance - $50/week

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
