Description:
Department: Electrical Engineering
Role Summary
We are seeking a technically adept Industrial Computer Hardware Engineer to design, validate, and support ruggedized computing platforms for automotive manufacturing environments. This role is central to enabling secure, high-performance IT/OT convergence across plant-floor systems, edge devices, and enterprise networks. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in embedded hardware, industrial PC architecture, and cybersecurity principles tailored to automotive production and automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and validate industrial-grade computing platforms (IPCs, panel PCs, edge controllers) for use in automotive assembly, testing, and logistics environments.
- Select and integrate components optimized for harsh conditions, long lifecycle support, and real-time responsiveness.
- Collaborate with controls, IT, and cybersecurity teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware across segmented networks and automation platforms.
- Conduct environmental and compliance testing (thermal, vibration, EMI) to meet automotive and industrial standards (e.g., UL, CE, ISO 16750, IEC 61000).
- Support secure boot, TPM, and hardware root-of-trust implementations to meet cybersecurity mandates (e.g., NIST 800-82, ISA/IEC 62443).
- Troubleshoot field-deployed systems and lead root cause analysis for hardware failures and performance bottlenecks.
- Maintain BOMs, revision control, and lifecycle documentation for hardware platforms deployed across multiple facilities.
- Interface with OEMs and suppliers to evaluate emerging technologies and mitigate supply chain risks.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation and benefits
- Opportunities for professional development and certification
- A collaborative environment driving innovation in smart manufacturing
- Direct impact on mission-critical systems in automotive production
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in industrial computer hardware design or support, preferably in automotive or high-volume manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of x86 and ARM architectures, embedded systems, and industrial I/O (CAN, Modbus, RS-232/485, Ethernet/IP).
- Experience with ruggedization techniques for temperature, shock, vibration, and ingress protection (IP65/IP67).
- Familiarity with BIOS/UEFI configuration, firmware updates, and hardware diagnostics.
- Knowledge of compliance standards: UL, CE, RoHS, REACH, ISO 16750, and industrial EMC.
- Understanding of IT/OT convergence principles, segmented network design, and secure data flow between plant-floor and enterprise systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automotive automation platforms (e.g., Rockwell and Siemens).
- Exposure to edge computing, AI accelerators, and GPU integration for machine vision or predictive maintenance.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks for industrial hardware (ISA/IEC 62443, NIST 800-82).
- Certifications such as IPC Designer, CompTIA Server+, or equivalent.
- Experience supporting MES and SCADA platforms in automotive type environments.
