Industrial HVAC/Electrical SME Technician

Electrical & HVAC Subject Matter Expert

Overview

The Electrical & HVAC Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for providing technical leadership in the design, development, installation, troubleshooting, and optimization of commercial and industrial electrical systems, HVAC equipment, plumbing infrastructure, and general facility systems. This role requires deep expertise in power distribution, controls, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, maintenance operations, and building systems management.

The SME will also support business growth by identifying new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, mentoring field technicians, and serving as a trusted technical advisor to customers, contractors, and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Technical & Engineering Duties
  • Design, review, and oversee installation of electrical distribution systems, HVAC equipment, controls, plumbing systems, and related building infrastructure while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal codes.
  • Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, load calculations, system layouts, and cost estimates for electrical, HVAC, and facility improvement projects.
  • Develop solutions for power requirements, lighting systems, automation controls, heating and cooling loads, ventilation, water systems, and energy management systems.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, facility managers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure proper system integration, placement, and performance.
  • Conduct onsite inspections, system testing, and commissioning to verify installations meet safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, and maintenance-related issues in the field.
  • Support technicians by providing guidance on diagnostics, repair strategy, and best practices.
  • Stay current with advancements in HVAC technologies, electrical systems, plumbing systems, automation controls, and facility maintenance standards.
  • Prioritize and manage schedules, service calls, work orders, emergency requests, and multiple active projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain high service standards while driving performance and customer satisfaction.

Business Development & Client Relations

  • Identify and pursue new project opportunities aligned with the company’s technical capabilities and growth strategy.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and service partners to generate repeat business and referrals.
  • Serve as a technical consultant during client meetings, project scoping, and proposal development.
  • Provide insight into market trends, customer needs, and competitive opportunities to support strategic planning.

Qualifications

Extensive NH3 Refrigeration Experience

Professional Engineer (PE), Master Electrician, HVAC License, Plumbing License, or equivalent certifications preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in HVAC, electrical systems, facilities maintenance, construction services, or related commercial/industrial environments.

Strong HVAC knowledge with the ability to understand troubleshooting, airflow, controls, heating, and cooling issues.

Good electrical knowledge with the ability to understand circuits, breakers, panels, power issues, and safe troubleshooting practices.

Plumbing knowledge with the ability to understand leaks, drains, valves, fixtures, water flow, and common repair solutions.

Well-rounded in general maintenance with the ability to understand doors, hardware, equipment issues, and overall facility needs.

Strong listener who can quickly absorb details, ask the right questions, and identify root causes before reacting.

Clear and professional communicator with the ability to work effectively with technicians, clients, vendors, and internal teams.

Highly organized with the ability to manage schedules, priorities, work orders, and multiple moving parts simultaneously.

Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, one-line diagrams, and mechanical plans.

Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, CMMS/work order systems, BAS controls platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
