Infant Assistant Teacher

Position Summary

The Infant Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and responsive environment for infants. This role focuses on meeting the individual needs of each child, including feeding, diapering, sleep routines, and early developmental support, while maintaining compliance with all state licensing regulations and center policies.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Safety

  • Provide constant, attentive supervision of infants to ensure safety and well-being
  • Follow all safe sleep practices in accordance with licensing (WAC) requirements
  • Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios at all times
  • Complete regular headcounts and ensure proper tracking of all children

Infant Care & Daily Routines

  • Assist with feeding (bottles and solids), diapering, and hygiene routines
  • Follow each child’s individualized care plan and schedule
  • Accurately document feedings, diaper changes, and sleep times
  • Maintain proper bottle labeling, storage, and sanitation procedures

Developmental Support

  • Engage infants in age-appropriate activities that support physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development
  • Provide tummy time, sensory play, and responsive interactions
  • Build strong, nurturing relationships through consistent, caring interactions
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to infants’ cues and needs

Classroom Environment

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary classroom at all times
  • Follow cleaning and sanitizing schedules for toys, surfaces, and equipment per licensing standards
  • Assist in setting up and rotating developmentally appropriate materials

Communication

  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with families during drop-off and pick-up
  • Share important daily information with Lead Teacher and administration
  • Support accurate and timely updates in communication apps (e.g., Brightwheel)

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Lead Teacher to maintain consistency in routines and expectations
  • Assist with transitions, coverage, and overall classroom flow
  • Support other classrooms as needed while maintaining ratios

Compliance & Professionalism

  • Follow all Washington State licensing (WAC) regulations and center policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and staff
  • Complete required trainings (CPR/First Aid, Safe Sleep, Bloodborne Pathogens, TB Test, etc.)
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in ongoing professional development

Qualifications

  • Minimum age: [18+]
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working with infants preferred
  • Ability to pass background check per state licensing requirements
  • CPR/First Aid certified (or willingness to obtain prior to working alone with children)

  • Patient, nurturing, and attentive demeanor
  • Strong understanding of infant care and development (or willingness to learn)
  • Ability to multitask and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Dependable and consistent attendance

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry infants (up to 30–40 pounds)
  • Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and stand frequently throughout the day
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
  • Comfortable working in an environment with frequent noise and activity

Work Schedule

  • Full-time or part-time positions available
  • Schedule may vary based on classroom needs

Pay: $17.13 - $20.00 per hour
