The Infection Control Nurse (ICN) is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining hospital infection prevention and control (IPC) practices. The ICN ensures compliance with national guidelines, reduces hospital-acquired infections, and promotes patient, staff, and visitor safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor, investigate, and report hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).
- Develop, implement, and update infection control policies and protocols.
- Conduct regular hospital rounds to check adherence to hygiene and sanitation practices.
- Oversee sterilization and disinfection processes across all departments.
- Provide training and awareness programs to healthcare staff on infection prevention.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, hand hygiene, and bio-medical waste management.
- Participate in surveillance, outbreak investigation, and root cause analysis of infections.
- Maintain records, generate infection control reports, and present data to the Infection Control Committee.
- Liaise with microbiology, housekeeping, and other departments to enforce IPC measures.
- Audit hospital practices (OT sterility, central sterile supply department, isolation rooms, etc.) regularly.
- Stay updated on national/international infection control guidelines (NABH, JCI, WHO, CDC).
