This position supports the mission of the HCA/HealthONE Continental Division of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The Infection Preventionist is responsible for the prevention, detection and control of infections in the facility. The individual is responsible for establishing, instituting and maintaining an effective system for evaluation and reporting infections in patients. All of this shall be accomplished based on a systematic body of professional knowledge. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

What qualifications you will need:

Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is desired, as employee becomes eligible to test for it.

• Bachelor’s degree in related field. Degree in Nursing or other clinical related field, preferred MSN,MPH or other related Masters degree preferred.
• Experience in infection control or related areas such as nursing or microbiology.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Strong critical thinking skills. Demonstrates knowledge of microbiology, normal flora, pathogens and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.

  Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and patient safety principles in infection control and prevention in the patient care environment
• Able to teach subject matter to others, or train others through explanation, demonstration, and supervised practice or make recommendations on the basis of technical disciplines. Excellent organization and customer service skills.
• Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and prioritize and schedule accordingly.
• Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel, patients and physicians.
• Team-building, conflict resolution, and communication skills, both verbal and written required.
• Work collaboratively with other departments and physicians.
• Ability to develop facility educational and research policies and programs, quality improvement programs, and operational policies and procedures.
• Ability to use professional judgment to identify areas for improvement and participate in development of quality initiatives.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.

  Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the AVP of Infection Prevention and facility Infection Prevention leaders. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
