INFECTION PREVENTIONIST

Shift: Mon. – Fri. 8:30am – 5:00pm
Department: Nursing

JOB RELATIONSHIP:
Supervised By: Administration

JOB SUMMARY:
Evaluates the quality of resident care and resident outcomes as they relate to healthcare- associated infections; collects, prepares and analyzes healthcare-associated infection data; presents infection data and makes recommendations for actions; monitors associate compliance in the use of barriers and infection prevention measures; prepares and presents educational offerings for the staff; serves as a resource to all departments and personnel; implements programs to protect the healthcare workers, visitors, and others in the healthcare environment; sets and recommends policies and procedures to prevent adverse events; provides internal and external reporting of information and data; promotes compliance with regulations, guidelines, and accreditation requirements.

WORK SCHEDULES:
All positions at Baptist Village, Inc. include holidays and weekends as they fall within your schedule. Additional worked hours may be needed as workload demands.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Have primary professional training in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, or other related field. A nursing background is desired.
  • Holds a current license in the State of Georgia.
  • Be qualified by education, training, experience or certification.
  • Have completed specialized training in infection prevention and control. Certification in

Infection Control and Prevention (ICP) is desired.

  • Be a member of and participate on the Quality Assurance and Performance

Improvement (QAPI) committee. Regularly report related ICP information.

  • Ability to stay abreast of evidence-based practices in ICP.
  • Ability to oversee and implement Infection Prevention and Control strategies
  • Ability to develop policies and procedures.
  • Ability to teach and evaluate clinical performance.
  • Ability to oversee and implement Infection Control strategies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Monitors healthcare-associated infections
  • Assesses infection prevention problems and makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Monitors infection prevention practices for all departments and personnel.
  • Follows all COVID-19 related CMS, DPH and CDC guidance and recommendations.
  • Conducts outbreak investigation and initiates mitigation/control measures.
  • Conducts infection control annual facility assessment for reviewing infection control policies and procedures and our capacity to meet the needs of the residents during day- to-day operations.
  • Reports communicable diseases/infections to appropriate regulatory agencies as required by the law.
  • Provides educational offerings for orientation and ongoing in-services.
  • Consults with department heads and physicians as needed to improve care.
  • Initiates follow-up on associate/resident exposures to communicable diseases.
  • Serves as a resource to all departments.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Participates in short-range and long-range planning for the infection prevention department.
  • Reports Infection Prevention and Control information to the appropriate committees, i.e., Infection Control Committee and/or Quality Assurance and Performance

Improvement Committees.

  • Oversees the Antibiotic Stewardship Program.
  • Reviews immunizations status and vaccinates accordingly.
  • Collects, analyze, and oversee data entry on relevant quality performance indicators.
  • Monitors and evaluates the appropriateness of facility quality control plans and practices.
  • Generates reports regarding performance against quality indicators and reports to the

Quality Assurance and Improvement Committee.

  • Participates in the planning and presentation of quality assurance training and educational programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
