Information Security Engineer/ Sr. Information Security Engineer

The School Employees Retirement System of Ohio (SERS) is seeking an Information Security Engineer/Sr. Information Security Engineer. The candidate’s level of experience will determine pay and title.

The desired candidate should be able to lead and support a wide array of information security initiatives across the organization.

Location: Columbus, Ohio (This position is hybrid and has work from home flexibility. Mandatory three days on-site.)

Salary Range:

Information Security Engineer: $84,348 - 126, 598

Sr. Information Security Engineer: $99,168 - $148,752

Position summary:

This role plays a pivotal part in strengthening the organization's cybersecurity posture, providing expert guidance on security engineering projects. This position requires technical expertise, a risk-based approach to prioritization, and proven experience in building and enhancing security disciplines across complex environments. The Information Security Engineer/Sr. Information Security Engineer demonstrates strategic thinking, strong collaboration skills, and a commitment to driving continual security innovation and organizational resilience. This role is perfect for the individual looking to play a crucial role in SERS' security initiatives

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Identity & Access Management (IAM) enhancements.
• Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) deployments.
• Network segmentation and Zero Trust implementations.
• Security automation and orchestration initiatives.
• System hardening and baseline creation, implementation, and auditing.
• Evaluates and implements new security technologies and tools to strengthen the enterprise security posture.
• Monitors and analyzes security events using SIEM and other detection platforms.
• Leads investigations and coordinates response efforts for security incidents.
• Evaluates existing security posture and provides risk-based recommendations for improvement.
• Leads deployment and tuning of DLP solutions to safeguard sensitive data across endpoints, cloud services, and email platforms.
• Monitors and responds to data exfiltration attempts and policy violations.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in computer science or related field;
• Two to three years of related experience or training;
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Certification, desired with;
• Ability to adapt and change behavior or methods of approach in rapidly changing environments.
• Strong attention to detail skills.
• Ability to demonstrate authenticity in relating to others.
• Demonstrates eagerness to continuously learn and acquire necessary technical knowledge.
• Effective and efficient use of computers in the working environment.
• Competence in collecting, consolidating and correctly using relevant data; recognizing important information.
• Develops and maintains effective relationships with others to encourage and support communication and teamwork.
• The ability to identify problems and issues of varying complexities and find effective solutions.
