Information Systems Security Engineer

Job Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Information System Security Officer (ISSO) / IT Systems Engineer to serve as the Classified Information Security Lead for the organization. This critical leadership role is based at the Arlington campus and is responsible for the management, protection, and oversight of classified information at the Secret and Top Secret levels.

The ideal candidate is a U.S. citizen with an active Top Secret (TS) clearance and SCI eligibility. This individual will ensure full compliance with all federal regulations governing the handling, storage, transmission, and protection of classified national security information, while maintaining the overall security posture of both classified and unclassified systems.The position supports a dynamic research environment involving diverse programs, non-standard computing systems, and multiple classification levels. The successful candidate will balance end-user needs, sponsor requirements, and contract milestones while contributing to proposals, ongoing projects, and new program launches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Classified Information Security Lead, overseeing cybersecurity compliance for classified and unclassified systems
  • Develop, maintain, and update required security documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs) and other artifacts
  • Execute contract-specific security requirements and ensure adherence to institutional policies and federal regulations
  • Support legal proceedings, government-sponsored initiatives, and research operations involving classified information
  • Manage the security posture across varied research programs and non-standard computing environments
  • Coordinate effectively with end users, sponsors, and stakeholders to meet contract deliverables and program milestones
  • Provide security expertise during proposal development, project execution, and the launch of new programs

Qualifications and Experience

  • U.S. citizenship is required
  • Active Top Secret (TS) clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)
  • Strong, demonstrated understanding of federal regulations and standards related to classified information security (e.g., NISPOM, ICDs, and related directives).
  • Proven experience maintaining the security posture of both classified and unclassified systems
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cybersecurity compliance and develop/maintain security documentation
  • Experience working in dynamic research or technical environments with non-standard computing systems
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills to support users, sponsors, and contract requirements effectively

Pay: $140,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
