Infrastructure Project Manager

Job Title: Infrastructure Project Manager

LOCATION: Remote.

Sponsorship: CANNOT offer sponsorship must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

COMPENSATION: $90-100 an hour. This is a 2-year contract

Role Summary

The Infrastructure Project Manager plans and delivers infrastructure initiatives that improve reliability, performance, security, and scalability across enterprise platforms. This role sits at the intersection of Infrastructure & Operations and the PMO—translating strategy into executable delivery, driving standards-based project governance, and ensuring technical teams and business stakeholders stay aligned on scope, risk, schedule, and outcomes.

Success in this role requires strong infrastructure fluency (cloud, virtualization, network/security, monitoring, databases, ITSM) plus disciplined project leadership across multiple workstreams, vendors, and operational dependencies.

Reporting Relationship: Reports to VP IT Services with strong dotted-line partnership to PMO leadership (may vary).

Core Outcomes

  • Projects delivered on time, within approved scope and budget, with measurable operational or security improvement.
  • Minimal service disruption through disciplined change planning, stakeholder readiness, and cutover management.
  • Transparent governance: crisp status, proactive risk management, and executive-ready reporting.
  • Strong operational handoff: documentation, monitoring, ITSM alignment, and support readiness completed.

Key Responsibilities

Operationally anchored delivery

  • Lead infrastructure initiatives end-to-end: discovery, design alignment, build, test, cutover, hypercare, and operational handoff.
  • Coordinate engineering teams across network, server/compute, virtualization/VDI, security, cloud, and database domains to deliver integrated outcomes.
  • Ensure production readiness: runbooks, monitoring instrumentation, access controls, patching approach, backup/restore considerations, and support model alignment.
  • Drive cross-domain dependency management (e.g., firewall rules, certificate changes, identity/access, DNS/IPAM, VDI capacity, logging/SIEM integration).
  • Partner with security teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise security standards and are auditable.

Technical environment alignment

  • Coordinate initiatives involving (but not limited to):
    • Productivity/Identity: Microsoft O365
    • Virtualization/VDI: VMware, VDI platforms
    • Monitoring/Observability: SolarWinds (Server, NPM, NTA, IPAM)
    • Security: SecureOne, CrowdStrike, Zscaler
    • Network/Security Infrastructure: network and firewall solutions (routing/switching, VPN, segmentation, policy management)
    • Databases: SQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle
    • Cloud: Microsoft Azure, AWS
    • ITSM: Freshservice, ServiceNow
    • Nice-to-have: Adobe and SMArT experience

Key Responsibilities

Governance, predictability, and executive communication

  • Establish and run project governance: charter, scope statement, integrated schedule, RAID log, change control, and stakeholder communications plan.
  • Build and manage delivery plans across multiple teams/vendors; drive weekly cadence (standups, technical checkpoints, steering updates).
  • Maintain tight control of scope, milestones, and acceptance criteria; ensure requirements traceability through implementation and handoff.
  • Identify and manage risks proactively; propose mitigation paths and decision points early—no “surprises” at go-live.
  • Produce executive-ready status reporting: progress vs. baseline, KPI/health indicators, budget/forecast, decisions required, and critical path.
  • Ensure vendor accountability: SOW alignment, deliverables tracking, invoice validation, and performance management.

Process integration

  • Align delivery to ITIL/ITSM practices—incident/change/release processes, CMDB impacts, and operationalization checkpoints.
  • Ensure documentation and training deliverables are completed and accepted prior to go-live.

Required Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of experience in Infrastructure Project Management and/or Solution Architecture (enterprise scale).
  • Proven record delivering complex infrastructure programs (multi-domain, multi-site, hybrid environments).
  • Strong working knowledge across:
    • Microsoft O365; VMware and VDI technologies
    • SolarWinds Server, NPM, NTA, IPAM
    • Endpoint/network security tools (SecureOne, CrowdStrike, Zscaler)
    • Network and firewall solutions
    • Database technologies (SQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle)
    • Cloud platforms (Azure and AWS)
    • ITSM platforms (Freshservice and ServiceNow)
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills—able to translate technical risk into business impact and decision-ready options.
  • Demonstrated strength in planning, dependency management, and change/cutover orchestration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in environments with high compliance and audit expectations.
  • Familiarity with Adobe and SMArT platforms (beneficial).
  • Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2) or Agile certs (CSM/SAFe) strongly preferred.
  • Infrastructure architecture background (hybrid cloud, network segmentation, VDI at scale) is a plus.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Infrastructure delivery leadership: builds credibility with engineers; removes blockers; drives closure.
  • RAID mastery: early risk detection, mitigation execution, and escalation discipline.
  • Cutover excellence: run-of-show, rollback planning, change windows, and hypercare management.
  • Stakeholder management: balances competing priorities; builds alignment; drives decisions.
  • Financial and vendor management: forecasting, SOW governance, and cost control.

Working Style Expectations

  • Operates with urgency and calm control during high-impact changes.
  • Builds structure without bureaucracy—right-sized governance that accelerates delivery.
  • Practices “no surprises” leadership: issues are surfaced early with options and recommendations.
