JOB SUMMARY

The Infusion Nurse delivers safe and effective infusion therapies in the hospital setting, including the administration of medications, fluids, and blood products. This role is responsible for clinical assessment, IV access, patient monitoring, and education, while ensuring compliance with physician orders and regulatory standards. The nurse supports patient comfort, safety, and positive experience throughout the infusion process.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN) required
  • Current RN license in Wyoming
  • BLS and ACLS certification required; Chemotherapy certification may be required for oncology infusions
  • Minimum one year of clinical nursing experience, preferably with IV therapy or infusion services
  • Demonstrates proficiency with IV access, infusion pumps, medication safety, and patient assessment

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE

Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens

RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Assess patients prior to infusion, review physician orders, and verify medication compatibility and dosing

2. Initiate and maintain IV access, central lines, and infusion pumps according to protocols

3. Administer prescribed medications, fluids, and blood products, monitoring for adverse reactions and therapy effectiveness

4. Provide patient education regarding infusion therapy, medication side effects, and self-care

5. Document assessments, interventions, progress, and patient responses in the EHR system

6. Respond quickly and appropriately to infusion reactions, complications, and emergencies

7. Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, laboratory, and other interdisciplinary staff as needed

8. Maintain compliance with infection control, medication safety, and regulatory requirements

9. Ensure accurate charging, supply management, and maintenance of infusion equipment

10. Support patient comfort, dignity, and cultural needs throughout therapy

11. Behave and dress in a professional and courteous manner consistent with the facilities Standards of Behavior.

12. Other duties may be assigned.

  • The employee must be able to lift and/or carry over 30 pounds on a regular basis and be able to push/pull over 30 pounds on a regular basis.
  • The employee must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
  • Regular use of hands and fine motor skills for IV placement, infusion pump operation, and charting.
