Join the Hampton Sheriff’s Office in a vital role supporting detention and judicial operations. The Inmate Records Clerk ensures inmate incarceration records are accurate, complete, and maintained in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, Compensation Board requirements, and Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures. This position plays an important part in processing court and release documents, maintaining official records, and preparing reports essential to the operation of the facility.
Typical Task:-
Maintain and update inmate records with precision and confidentiality

Process court documents, releases, and transfer paperwork

Conduct warrant checks (VCIN/NCIC) for inmate release eligibility

Enter and manage data in jail management systems (LIDS)

Calculate inmate sentences, good time, and release dates

Prepare daily, monthly, and quarterly reports (including use-of-force reports)

Coordinate with courts, law enforcement, and internal staff

Audit records and ensure compliance with policies and regulations

Respond to inquiries and correspondence related to inmate records
Minimum Requirements:-
High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred (business, computer science, criminal justice, or related field).

A minimum of 1 year of professional experience in records management, data entry, or administrative support involving confidential information.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Must successfully pass a background investigation before employment.

This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s substance abuse policy, if applicable.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
