We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking lawyer to be our Innovation Practice Support Lead. This role will partner with the firm’s Legal Practice Innovation team and Commercial Litigation Department, focusing full-time on workflow design and compliance-driven innovation leadership to enhance service delivery and strengthen the firm’s competitive position.
The Innovation Practice Support Lead will connect practicing litigators, Legal Practice Innovation, vendors, and clients to ensure that litigation workflows are internally aligned and consistent with the firm’s Information and AI Governance policies. Responsibilities include mapping litigation workflows, supporting eDiscovery and document review processes, and promoting the adoption of secure, efficient tools that improve lawyer effectiveness while safeguarding client confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
Litigation Workflow & Process Mapping
- Conduct structured assessments of Commercial Litigation workflows, from intake through discovery, motion practice, trial, and appeal.
- Map end-to-end workflows to identify friction points, redundancies, and opportunities for technology-enabled improvement.
- Design and pilot workflow enhancements that align with both practice group needs and the firm’s AI and information governance framework.
- Document and maintain standardized litigation playbooks that integrate technology, process, and compliance obligations.
eDiscovery & Litigation Technology Support
- Partner with litigators, paralegals, the firm’s Ancillary Business Units (“ABU”s), and litigation support teams to improve eDiscovery workflows, ensuring efficient, defensible document review and production.
- Evaluate, test, and recommend litigation technologies (e.g., TAR, predictive coding, analytics platforms) for improved responsiveness and accuracy.
- Provide guidance to lawyers on defensible technology use in eDiscovery, including privilege screening, redaction, and metadata management.
- Collaborate with clients and vendors to develop efficient discovery protocols and service delivery models that reduce cost and risk.
AI & Information Governance Compliance
- Ensure that all innovation initiatives comply with firm policies on information governance, AI governance, and confidentiality.
- Monitor regulatory and ethical obligations in litigation technology use, including evolving guidance from courts, bar associations, and regulators.
- Educate lawyers and litigation support teams on responsible AI use, emphasizing verification and validation of outputs, data privacy, and privilege safeguards.
- Serve as a point of escalation for AI-related risks in litigation workflows, coordinating with Legal Practice Innovation and Information Governance leadership.
Lawyer Education & Training
- Develop and deliver practical training sessions and CLEs on litigation technologies, workflow enhancements, and compliance obligations.
- Provide hands-on guidance to litigators on the effective use of litigation tech tools and AI-powered platforms.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, encouraging lawyers to proactively integrate responsible technologies into practice.
Business & Client Collaboration
- Advocate for the litigation department’s innovation priorities in alignment with firm leadership and Legal Practice Innovation strategy.
- Engage directly with clients to understand litigation support needs and co-develop innovative service delivery approaches.
- Facilitate co-innovation sessions with clients, vendors, and practice groups to ensure solutions reflect both efficiency goals and compliance obligations.
- Stay up to date on current and emerging litigation technologies and partner with the firm’s Legal Practice Innovation team to facilitate resource evaluations and benchmarking.
Key Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Juris Doctor (JD) with active bar membership.
- Minimum of 12 years of litigation experience, with demonstrated interest or experience in legal technology, process improvement, eDiscovery, or innovation.
- Prior leadership experience in a law firm or in-house environment focusing on litigation operations, eDiscovery, or practice innovation preferred.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of eDiscovery workflows, litigation support tools, and defensible data handling.
- Proficiency in AI-enabled legal technologies, including document review analytics, advanced search tools, workflow automation, and litigation support platforms.
- Knowledge of project management, change management, and process optimization principles.
- Familiarity with AI governance, information governance, and legal ethics requirements relating to technology use.
Leadership & Communication Skills
- Exceptional communication skills to explain complex processes and technologies to lawyers, clients, and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and build cross-functional consensus.
- Proven track record of leading process-improvement or innovation initiatives in a large litigation environment.
