Instructional Aide

Location: Timothy L. Johnson Academies – Fort Wayne, IN
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Pay Range: $18.00 – $21.00 per hour (Based on experience and qualifications) Employment Type: Full-Time, School Year

Are you passionate about supporting students and making a real difference in the classroom? Timothy L. Johnson Academies is seeking dedicated Instructional Aides to join our team. As an instructional aide, you’ll work closely with teachers and staff to provide academic, behavioral, and supervisory support for scholars in a dynamic and inclusive learning environment.

Training will be provided in the OG/Slant approach and the SIOP model to ensure you are equipped with proven strategies to support scholars in literacy development and language acquisition.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Support

• Assist with classroom instruction and small group activities
• Reinforce learning objectives and provide individualized academic support
• Support interventions aligned with IEPs, ILPs, and curriculum goals

Classroom Management

• Help implement and maintain classroom routines and expectations
• Monitor student engagement and behavior during lessons and transitions
• Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies as needed

Scholar Supervision

• Supervise scholars during arrival, recess, lunch, transitions, and dismissal
• Provide support for behavior or safety interventions
• Monitor wellness and report concerns to appropriate staff

Data & Documentation

• Record observations, behavior incidents, and academic progress
• Maintain confidentiality of scholar information

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with teachers, administrators, and support staff
• Attend trainings—including OG/Slant and SIOP—and participate in professional development
• Communicate respectfully with families and team members

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous experience with school-age children strongly preferred

Skills & Abilities:

• Positive, collaborative attitude and strong work ethic
• Effective communication and classroom support skills
• Understanding of academic and behavior strategies

Work Environment:

• Active, hands-on support role in classrooms and common areas
