Instructional Specialist 1

Assist and support the automotive technology instructors in providing instruction by preparing labs for demonstrations, managing the automotive technology shop, and managing hazardous materials purchase and disposal.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Position requires an AA/AS degree in an automotive or equivalent technical discipline, plus a minimum of two years of full-time related experience resulting in a recognized industry certification. Additional related education and experience may substitute for certifications. A minimum of one year of experience working with training employees in the automotive repair shop industry or in an institutional setting involving mentoring activities and/or set-up/support of learning experiences is desirable. Demonstrated competency in machine tool technology, welding, auto diesel engine repair, power train, fluid and pneumatic systems, or related technical disciplines are preferred.

Certificates and Licenses: Requires valid Oregon driver’s license. Must attain industrial lift truck certification within 30 days of employment. Welding certification is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Abilities: Ability to set up and maintain laboratory and equipment in a safe, clean and functional manner is required. Requires the ability to independently set up student projects which meet the instructional goals of faculty. Ability to function independently. Must be able to instruct students in the use of automotive technology equipment and supplies, and personal protective equipment. Must be able to communicate in both formal and informal setting with students, instructors, and the general public. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Physical Skills and Abilities: Physical ability to operate demanding equipment. Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate equipment. Requires sufficient hearing and speaking skills to communicate with staff and students. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate lab equipment.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in college automotive labs and classrooms with potential exposure to safety or health hazards.
Essential Duties:
Assists or tutors students in completing assigned class activities by observing the student performing the assigned tasks and asking questions of the student, making sure the student knows correct materials, tools, equipment and methods to complete the assignment. This includes developing materials and providing individualized instruction to students needing additional assistance.
Represents the ATTC and the College to the public, businesses, and prospective students; conducts tours, presenting information about the facility and programs, answers questions, and greets walk-ins with questions and/or concerns. Ensures the Center is organized and ready for tours.
Maintains the ATTC in a clean and safe condition. Performs regular maintenance to equipment and machines, or coordinates needed repairs. Maintains auto parts storage, and other supplies, parts, tools and equipment needed for laboratory to include designing and building training aids, placing orders, obtaining bids and/or purchasing items. Ensures P-card transactions are matched to appropriate documentation and FOAPAL.
Prepares lab so assignments may be demonstrated by setting up the correct materials, tools and equipment needed for the assignments. May assist staff with preparation of instructional and testing materials, to include administering and scoring instructor’s exams.
Oversees work of one or more student employees.
Carries out inventory and disposal of hazardous waste. Continually updates knowledge of current regulations (DEQ, OSHA) and accepted disposal methods. Updates safety procedures and practices, and maintains MSDS inventory.
Establishes and supervises safety procedures and practices in laboratory. Observes student work for proper safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment.
In absence of instructors due to illness or meetings, teaches/oversees auto-diesel labs and classes.
Represents department to the public for repair projects. Explains program policy on private projects. Oversees repair orders, completes preliminary cost estimates, tracks repair progress, maintains electronic records, provides customer services, and processes payments.
Accepts vehicle donations from organizations and the public. Meets with the donor, accepts the vehicle or may pick up or arrange for pick up. Completes the DMV and Foundation paperwork. Processes DMV title change. Ensures all DMV paperwork is in current for College owned vehicles at the ATTC.
Participates in the salvage and/or sale of department vehicles.
Performs annual inventory of assets. Reconciles inventory against Business Office records.
