Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks exceptional Instructional Support - Library (Grades K-12) candidates who are highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders.

The Instructional Support - Library (ISL) is a full-time,10-month position with the primary responsibility of supporting school library programs at the district level. The ISL provides library staff with pedagogical support to effectively leverage library media resources (including technology) as aligned to district priorities. The ISL challenges library staff and school leaders to fulfill their vision and advocates to improve student achievement by engaging students in the learning process and personalizing learning. The ISL works to ensure that every school library program has the opportunity to become proficient in leveraging library media resources (including technology) to access deeper learning through rigorous and culturally relevant experiences. ;

Qualifications

Education requirements: ;

• Hold a Bachelor's degree in an education-related field ;
• Hold a valid Department of Instruction Library Media Specialist license (1902) ;

Experience requirements: ;

• Have completed a minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience as a fully-licensed teacher or school librarian in a K-12 setting is required.
• Permit Library Media Specialist with three (3) years of school library experience and five (5) years of full-time experience as a fully-licensed teacher in a K-12 setting ;would be considered.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: ;

• Creates and leads professional development at the district level.
• Performs adult educational coaching. ; ;
• Collaborates and coaches library staff to develop and execute strategic plans that illustrate the integration of the school library programs and school goals. ;
• Keeps district leadership and principal abreast of progress. ;
• Leads and supports library staff in the integration of effective uses of library media resources and digital technology through a consistent pattern of strategic outreach and informal support. ;
• Collaborates with library staff in composing effective technology-infused, content-based, culturally relevant experiences, and support library staff as they implement these lessons in their schools. In addition, helping library staff reflect upon and improve lessons. ;
• Promotes a strong learning culture among all library staff and students.
• Participates in ongoing professional development related to job responsibilities and maintaining expertise in the field.
• Promotes and models instructional practices and the role of library media and technology integration.
• Collaboratively develops engaging lessons with library staff and provides support through modeling and co-teaching.
• Provides assistance and training to library staff in the purchase and integration of library resources to support student achievement. ;
• Plans and implements job-embedded professional development and workshops for individuals, small groups, and large groups. ;
• Provides user support for Destiny and library digital databases. ;
• Facilitates discussions with school leadership teams regarding library programming. ;
• Documents innovative learning strategies for ongoing assessment and publication purposes. ;
• Periodically collects data on levels of library media and technology integration via research and targeted support to inform. professional learning supports. ;
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Working environment: Typical office or school environment. ;

Position may be required to work additional hours, outside of the normal business day.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary range: $62,786.16 - $117,586.72 (1D - 200-day calendar)

Placement on the salary schedule is based on years of fully licensed teaching/pupil services experience in a K-12 setting and education beyond a bachelor's degree.
