Job Overview

The Illinois Works (ILW), Instructor has a vital role in educating and guiding program participants. Specifically, the ILW Instructor will be responsible for delivering occupational skills training, as well as developing curriculum and lead instruction for construction industry courses, such as NCCER Core Construction and OSHA-10, providing delivery and coordination of classroom, hands-on, and worksite training, in the areas of employability skills, construction math and mechanical aptitude training/tutoring. The Instructor performs pre/post training assessments of program participants.

The supporting activities the ILW Instructor will perform to fulfill the responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

  • Curriculum Development - Design/develop lesson plans and class materials in line with course objectives and manuals.
  • Teaching - Deliver lectures, presentations, and demonstrations in an engaging and effective manner.
  • Assessment & Evaluation - Create/administer tests, assignments, and projects to assess participant progress to provide timely and constructive feedback.
  • Classroom Management – Record/certify participant attendance, manage classroom discipline as required and foster an inclusive, positive, productive learning environment.
  • Student Support - Offer guidance, mentoring to students on academic matters, provide office hours, tutoring and other forms of student support.
  • Collaboration - Participate in scheduled meetings/organizational events (e.g., graduation, orientation), curriculum reviews, work with other faculty members to coordinate course content, share teaching and schedule sessions.
  • Continuous Improvement - Participate in programmatic continuous improvement initiatives to enhance delivery of instruction and participant outcomes.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • National Center for Construction Education & Research Instructor certification required.
  • Expertise in the subject matter, with demonstrated ability to teach the material effectively.
  • Prior experience in an academic or vocational setting.
  • 3 years of experience in construction trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.)
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: From $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 per week
