Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Online Education and Resources or designee, the Librarian will (1) provide reference/reader services for the student faculty, and administration of the College as well as the general patrons of the community. (2) Expedite the learning/teaching process by bringing professional expertise and learning resources to faculty and students, and (3) to work with faculty in the identification, development, evaluation, and utilization of both print and non-print media.

This position offers a competitive starting salary of $66,307 – $70,366, along with a comprehensive college benefits package.

Supervisory Role
Oral and written supervision is received from the Assistant Dean of Online Education and Resources or designee. The Librarian may supervise library/technical assistants, technical clerks, and student aides.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Perform general reference duties and information services including, (a) designing and preparing units on bibliographic instruction which teach appropriate reference techniques, the general use of resources, and the specific use of tools in the Essex County college libraries; (b) supplying information about print and non-print media; © locating bibliographic information; (d) explaining the arrangement, resources, and policies of the library; (e) preparing exhibits.
2. Develop and conduct library orientation classes.
3. Assist students in dependent study, self-education, and pursuit of interests beyond classroom requirements.
4. Provide technical assistance to faculty engaged in course and instructional development.
5. Assist in the development of instructional materials for projects undertaken by the library.
6. Promote the effective use of print and non-print media.
7. Review, select, and recommend for purchase print and non-print materials related to his/her assigned academic subject area and other subject areas as related to collection development activities.
8. Prepare bibliographies on specific subjects.
9. Participate in the development and implementation of in-service training to enhance faculty production and utilization of learning resources.
10. Provide bibliographic instruction to classes and individual students.
11. Train and supervise technical assistants and other non-professional staff.
12. Contribute data to library studies, statistical reports and other documents.
13. Maintain the schedule of classes on bibliographic instruction and assigns the librarians to teach specific classes.
14. Actively seek opportunities for professional growth by attending professional meetings, (b) reading the professional literature, © visiting other libraries, (d) serving on related committees within the College and throughout the library community, (e) developing subject specialty area and increasing skills in instructional design.
15. Serve as liaison between day and evening/Saturday librarian.
16. Organize and implement all interlibrary loan activities.
17. Perform other related duties as required.

Additional Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
1. Master’s degree in library science.
2. Knowledge of reference services, bibliographic techniques, and general library operations concerning print and non-print media.
3. Knowledge of automated library systems and ability to incorporate such into daily library services.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
6. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Education Requirements
Master’s Degree

Licenses and Certifications (including e.g., CPR, first aid, driver’s license, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
1. Master’s degree in a related subject discipline
2. Ability to operate and utilize audiovisual hardware and software.
3. Knowledge of ADA requirements for academic libraries.
