Job Description
We are looking for a highly skilled Instrumentation Engineer with 3 to 5 years of experience in Detail Engineering for Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or Energy projects. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in preparing and reviewing instrumentation engineering deliverables such as instrument index, IO lists, loop drawings, cable schedules, datasheets, and cause & effect diagrams.
The candidate must be proficient in engineering tools such as SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation), AutoCAD, AVEVA Instrumentation, and Instrucalc, and be willing to work from our Chennai office.
Roles and Responsibilities
Instrumentation Design & Engineering
- Develop and maintain Instrument Index, I/O List, Instrument Location Plans, and Hook-up drawings.
- Prepare Cable Schedules, Cable Block Diagrams, Termination Drawings, and Loop Drawings for field instruments and control systems.
- Prepare and review Instrument Datasheets for transmitters, control valves, analyzers, switches, and other field devices.
- Perform control valve sizing, flow element sizing, and other instrument calculations using Instrucalc or equivalent tools.
- Develop Cause & Effect (C&E) diagrams, Logic Diagrams, and Interlock Narratives.
- Prepare Fire & Gas (F&G) layouts, detector layouts, and safety system documentation.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant ISA, IEC, API, and Oil & Gas industry standards.
Documentation & Deliverables
- Prepare specifications, material requisitions, instrument bill of materials, and technical bid evaluations.
- Review vendor documents for instruments, control valves, and packaged equipment.
- Ensure all engineering deliverables meet project quality and schedule requirements.
Software Tools & Modeling
- Develop and update instrumentation drawings using AutoCAD.
- Work with SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation) for instrument database management and deliverable generation.
- Use AVEVA Instrumentation for 3D model integration, cable routing, and equipment placement.
- Perform instrument sizing and calculations using Instrucalc or similar tools.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with process, electrical, mechanical, piping, and control system teams to ensure seamless integration of instrumentation deliverables.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, SIL studies, and client meetings.
- Provide technical support to construction and commissioning teams, including resolving site queries.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, engineering standards, and safety requirements.
- Follow internal engineering workflows, document control procedures, and quality processes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of instrumentation engineering practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation, or related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Detail Engineering for Oil & Gas / Petrochemical projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Instrument Index, IO List
- Cable Schedule, Cable Block Diagram

- Valve Sizing & Instrument Calculations

- Willingness to work in Chennai.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills
- Experience with offshore or onshore Oil & Gas projects.
- Knowledge of DCS/PLC architecture and control system integration.
- Familiarity with SIL classification and safety system design.
- Experience with 3D model reviews and interdisciplinary coordination.
